Its hard to believe these cars were designed to be used outdoors.

Supposedly not by much. I've not yet driven it enough to tell. The additional weight is only 65Kg, so the issue is mainly aerodynamic drag. There is an increase in frontal cross-sectional area, but a reduction in the turbulence (and noise) from the roof bars. I suspect that there will not be much difference between running with the bars and no tent and bars with tent. If so then I lost about 1 mpg when I fitted the bars, so touch wood that might be the only change.I bet that alters the mpg a smidge...
