Map sensor clean(I have an EGR so cleaning the map is a service task), replaced the crank losition sensor(easy job once I had worked out the best way to losition myself and reach up), and replaced the cheap MAF with the original Siemens that I removed a few months ago!

Oh, and got the dent man round to remove three very annoying finger dents from the rear oasse ger door - however, he pointed out several other ti y ones that I had not really noticed, or chose not too and he ended up working on all four doors but these guys can work magic and the bodywork is a good 9.5 out of 10 now.

Productive day !

Need to check the ECU plugs for oil contamination tomorrow.
For a couple of weeks I noticed that the engine is really really slow to pick-up from low revs, but is fine once the turbo kicks in at about 1600

Roughly a week or so back, while shutting the drivers door as normal (not slamming, this was normal closing!) and while winding up the window at the same time, the

glass shattered.

So, the repair guy from Autoglass came out the next day with a temporary window for the wagon (D2TD5), and reported to me that the winder wasn't working, and that it would have to be fixed before the actual glass window could be fitted.

As you're likely aware, the regulator is the mechanism that attached directly to the door window glass, and raises and lowers the glass. The motor is what powers the regulator mechanism. So, the fuse controlling both front windows was still intact, and I could raise and lower the left front window, and I could't find anything wrong with the switches. Therefore, and on the principle that it's an original installation (the water shedder inside the door appeared to be the OEM-installed shedder when I replaced the door stay a month or so back), I decided to replace both the regulator gear the motor. These were duly ordered from Craddocks, along with new felt liners and a couple of switches, just in case.

On removing the door card and water shedder there was, as expected, about 2/3 a pane of glass remaining in mostly 5mm chunks in the bottom of the door frame. Hoovering those out was a simple task. Removing the old mechanism and motor was equally simple, and while there were a couple of "how the

thing go in?!" moments, installing the new gear and motor was relatively easy. I'd give it a one-and-a-half-spanners level of difficulty on the Haynes scale ;) And yes, I greased the teeth on both the motor and the regulator assembly before installation, and sprayed chain lube on the running gear at the bottom of the regulator once installed.

Turns out that it was the motor that was burned out. I tested the motor with a 12 volt source once I'd removed it, and found not a hint of movement when the voltage was applied to the motor connector terminals. Mind you, the teeth on the motor, and the regulator mechanism, were badly worn, with a couple of teeth on the motor assembly badly worn down to almost non-existence too, which could not have helped at all.

Anyhow, the lad from Autoglass is due on Sunday, to replace the glass, and since the winder is now working, I foresee no problems with him fitting the new glass.:D

Started to clean up the headlight securing brackets , have to fight sometimes to get them out so sanding all the rubbish off

Will give them a coat of dinitrol after

SO much for getting the window done today. Seems that AutoGlass's supplier cocked things a bit, and provided a window glass for the Disco5, not the Disco2. Let's hope third time's the charm.

Sometimes have condensation in the headlight so drilled a 6 mm hole, near the top , used some conduit around the rubber tube so the P clip could secure it , will also do the other side and at the same time clean those brackets up as well then give all 4 x brackets a quick spray

Fitted the gutter mount for the CB antenna and was checking out cable routing possibilities and discovered that the bolts for the rear ( 6 & 7 ) headrests which I removed has left a hole from the outside to the inside hidden behind the back door seal.
Have ordered some new pl159 plugs as I'll need to cut off the existing ones in order to feed the antenna cable through.
Forgot to take photos, but I will do.

Well, the drivers side window glass debacle is now in the final stretch

Window glass fitted, glue holding it in place drying (should be sorted in an hour or so), and all that remains is for me to replace the water shedder and the door card trim (since I removed those for the tech from AutoGlass, I have to replace them. No problem there, I was expecting to do that anyhow). I'll do that when I've finished my shift, it's too damn hot out there right now.

Now, there was ONE glitch. It appears that a previous owner may have substituted the screw holding the window retention tab, as the one I pulled out of there on Friday was NOT the original item. So, this is why AutoGlass glued the glass in place, rather than press-fitting it. SO, if this happens again, I will need to get a replacement screw. I should have plenty of time to do that now, at least

Also worth noting I did buy a LR keyring, only issue was it going Clank Clank on the plastic wheel surround, drove me nutty!!!

Changed both front window regulators today, as they both gave out within 5 days of each other....
Not ideal having front windows that don't open in this weather....

Not bad though, easy job and £33 the pair.
