wondered if anyone would be interested in a thread like this

thought i would start it off

got some new tyres fitted

replaced all the wheel nuts

new locking wheel nuts and wipers ordered

ran a bead of silicone between the windscreen and bodywork to try and stop the water leak getting inside the car, allowing water to then travel down , onto the floor and along the wiring loom tract

working on how to resolve my srs airbag light

egr bypass kit bought and need to pluck up the courage to fit it

what's everyone else been up to please

Seeing as it's probably the last warm day before the onset of winter, I took the opportunity to change all four wheels with summer tyres on for the other four with the winter tyres, proper winter tyres.

On my own, all by myself ... twenty minutes each wheel. Not bad considering.

Nothing I'm at work in London, ok for those who are retired and home every day.

As for winter tyres, I understand they only come into play in -7c so l will never have the need for them in my part of the world.

Come on Bud, check the data again. it's not minus 7c, it's anything below plus seven Celsius.

In that case I definitely don't need them. Disco has Goodyear Wrangler all seasons fitted, they have the mountain symbol, the old tyres Goodyear Eagle + 4 had the snow flake symbol. My Jag XE S well that won't go anywhere as soon as salt is on the roads.

i also checked mine , can't see any signs on them

always thought winter tyres were a myth , until i watched a program about them and make a lot of difference

even on ordinary 2wd cars

is it norway etc that u have to get them fitted by law

know my coopers are all terrain but i assume the winter tyres are a different ball game regarding traction etc

Not just Norway. Here's a list of European countries requiring by law or advising winter or cold weather tyres:

blimey didn't realise there were so many countries that its compulsory , not a bad thing mind

far better as well than snow chains or socks, ripping the crap out of ur tyres

To be honest, I'm not that interested in the traction aspect, I'm more interested in what they do for the stopping distance, after all, two and a quarter tons of out of control metal on snow and ice is my idea of "hell on wheels"

Those Coopers look like they have a useful tread on them - what 'model' are they?

Haven't done it today, but our Disco has spent much of the summer doing this.....

I lifted the bonnet and found the a/c clutch is not kicking in again unless the dual pressure switch (which I replaced a few months ago) is bypassed. Did have the dye put in when it was refilled a few weeks ago so I'll be back there for them to have a look.

Then I wiped over the interior plastic and leather bits, took the vacuum cleaner over the inside and gave the rubber overmats a wash and wipe over with conditioner, they are currently making the washing line sag whilst drying off in this rather nice sun! Is it the last before all this forecasted snow?

think i should have stayed in bed

fitted some cheap leds and then the centre light console started to smoke , lasted for about 3 x seconds before i managed to get the bulbs out

so will now take out the centre console to check the wiring

then got some locking wheel nuts, came with no washers so as i put them on they went through the hole of the wheel

but at least i managed to fit a new rear wiper

time for a beer i think, lol

at least u won't need the ac for a bit but fingers crossed the garage sorts it all out

fitted some new rubber mats , will be nice when the smell goes,

fingers crossed it will snow, then the roads will be nice a free for us to play on

there's always a few cars that try it and end up spinning out

Ever since I have owned land rovers, some 50 years, when the snow and ice drove others off the road, have had my experiences volunteering for the local hospital ferrying patients or staff to various destinations. Extremely interesting in the middle of the night, South Wales has some very good toboganning hills. Luckily not been required for a number of years.

is surprising though how many cars try and wing it in the snow,

u always seem to see the brand new rangie trying the fast lane at 70mph in the snow thinking as they've got 4 x wheel drive they will be fine, numpties or words to that effect

sounds a worthwhile thing to do, imagine the people are very grateful as well

Ahh, but they've got a "snow button" and if you press it you can do what you like ....... that is until it all goes to worms!

got that terrain response in mine , i certainly don't intend to abuse the 4 x wheel drive system

sounds quite a clever system by using traction control and electronic diff locks , got them front back and centre

had a 109 , when i was about 22 , went round a corner and the back slid round and in the blink of an eye was in a field

learnt real fast that 4 wheel drive means jack if there's nothing for the tyres to grip to

a lesson learned and noted , seems many rely on technology too much and as u say come a cropper
