Whipped out the centre console and drilled out the rivets to get to the bias plate area only to find that the gaiter has split and all the grease that I put in there the last time has made a bid for freedom, so had to order a new gaiter.
Just as well I'm changing the bias plate stuff after all. :)

32ftlb the book says, 32ftlb!
Why then did I need to use the jack to release the manual gearbox drain plug? Once the copper compression washer and gasket gunk [!!] had been removed and lovely new fluid poured in...transformation. No more sticky gear changes and definitely an uncomfortable feeling that the little Christmas tree on the drain plug magnet was very likely down to me and my assumption that the fluid had been changed 'just' before I bought her [18mths ago]. Lesson learned...what a twit!!

On a more positive note...following the instructions printed hereabouts, I removed, stripped down, cleaned and lubbed the rear sunroof motor and...you guessed it...transformation! Thanks LZ, the dogs now have their aircon back!! :)

I'm just impressed your sun roof works and don't leak!!
Thanks for spoiling my day ;) I've been trying for months to get them to open! As for gearbox!! Not nice to see a hairy plug though o_O

Sorry to hear that Weldy, but I'm saying nothing...all I've had to do other than the motor refurb is replace the previous owner's 'Bic pen and silicone' sunroof-drain fix with a 3/8" pipe and araldite...Oh God I've said it now haven't I!!

I'm getting close to MC hammer time on them
Can't believe that bodge job of pens and glue!!
But it's got me thinking !! I'm off out to check they could have glued them shut ! That may be why I keep blowing fuses!!
Thanks for pointer in the right direction

Fitted the slickshift bias plate stuff.. initial opinions... some jobs would be so much easier if they could be done off / out of the car.
Anyway, the gear shifts are certainly crisper and shorter, but I wouldn't say they are any smoother going in to gear, and based on the state of the gear stick pivot which was in surprisingly good condition, my gear change issue lies elsewhere.
Now I've got to drive around with a gaping hole above the gearbox until my new gaiter arrives and it's p155ing down

do you think the problem is in the box?
Make a gaiter!! Gaffa tape ! Black bags sure you've watched blue Peter before!! Improvisation is what landrovers run on !!

Not sure tbh, but I have in the past tried to fix problems that didn't actually exist, so maybe the gearbox is as good as it's gonna be, after all, it has covered 110k, so it'll never be silky smooth, although I'm not sure it ever was even when it left the factory.
I've had to make a heath robinson gaiter for the top one on the gearbox (by the rivets) as it was completely destroyed and apparently you can't buy new ones anymore. I've ordered a new gaiter anyway, so I'll throw that on when it arrives.

Got recovered from a park near Windsor at the weekend, apparently I need a new blue flat 2 brick.... anyone have one spare?9689D89B-4E3C-4555-94DE-07B4DDD1B860.jpeg

@neilly - I normally have a couple of grey flat plates (6 studs by 8 studs) over each roof, but took them off this weekend as I didn’t think it would rain....

I guess they are double purpose, can be used as waffle boards as well. Triple dog dare you :p:p to post that pic on FB landywatch and say you saw it being lifted...LOL.

Cheers

I acquired my TD5 "Millennium Limited Edition" back in May 2000. It was previously being used as a demonstrator by a dealer. It cost £28k and probably cost about £33k after I'd finished paying for it! I took the decision to sell her on last summer. Basically, in the 18 years I've had her anything that could go wrong, HAS gone wrong!! Everything from head gasket, turbo, clutch, fuel pump, air bags, gear box etc, etc. I've been on the back of more recovery trucks than I care to mention. This was on a vehicle that never missed a service and has only done 141k miles. Despite advertising her as "spares or repairs" I got no serious offers.

So, three weeks ago, I bit the bullet. She's had a third of the chassis replaced, towing equipment re-installed, both sun roof leaks repaired, new front bumper and repairs to front headlight washer jets, new auxiliary towing socket, dents removed from front bonnet and re-sprayed, port side rear door dent repair and re-sprayed, new dashboard lamps, welding to n/s/f wheel arch, diesel leak from fuel regulator repaired, bush on front suspension replaced, rubber boot on front suspension ball joint, new battery, air con pump repaired and re-gas, welding to o/s/f inner wheel arch area and sill area, renew leaky water pump, drivers heated seat element replaced and an MoT.

The invoice is enough to make your hair curl bearing in mind it wasn't worth £600 when we started!

But, She's good for another ten years now........hopefully!
Guys, I'm looking for a beige overhead storage bin (with the netting) drivers side. It sits above the rear passengers head!
I'd stick it on the "parts wanted" forum but I don't have enough credits in me bucket to post there?
