I don't think having the money to change the VCU has anything to do with it. I for one am not afraid to spend money on a car. I spent over £1,600 on parts alone for my Discovery 3 in the last 12 months. It's all part of ownership of such a vehicle.
DIY VCU rebuilding is not only about value for money, but knowing the job has also been done correctly. If you are happy to spend £250 + on a refurbished VCU that has been filled with £5 worth God knows what, go right ahead. Personally I'd rather spend £8 on 120ml on the correct fluid and know that it's been done correctly. ;)

Only being selective in so much as I haven't read the whole thread. The polite request stands and applies to everyone.

Fluid is here so I'll be getting on with the weld free fluid change in the coming weeks, weather permitting.

I've actually got 2 VCUs to referbish with new fluid. The mother in laws V6 could probably do with a fluid change too. It's better to sort it out before it causes damage to the IRD.
