What did you do with your Range Rover today

You got it with an MOT didn’t you?

J
Yes, got a new MoT, clean sheet, but checked online for historic MoTs showed coolant leak at rear of engine as advisory for a couple of years. A check over at my local indie garage diagnosed oilcooler problem with traces of engine oil in the header tank, wear on brakes and various suspension bushes, to be expected of a car that age and mileage. But if that's all that's wrong, I reckon just under £6k was a sensible price.

and the 10 reg Vogue I got before that, the one with 50-odd electronic faults has now been taken back by the seller and my money repaid, minus a bit for using the car for a month. That was Junction 5 Car Sales on the old A40 at Stokenchurch. Beware!!

Off to Essex today to collect the crankshaft and cylinder heads for my 1952 AEC bus engine, braving Operation Brock on the M20 and the Dartford Crossing. :(

Collected a boot load of goodies from Gosnays Engineering on Monday, crankshaft, cylinder heads, con rods, piston rings and bits for my 1952 AEC Airport coach. The crankshaft just about fits in the boot! This was before it was unloaded in the workshop at home. There's a box of Plastigauge used for measuring main bearing journal clearances. The crank on this 72 year old engine has never been reground; I was lucky to get a standard set of main bearing shells for it. Now for the lengthy rebuild process!

Found something prematurely 'worn out' on my modern Range Rover - the airbox screws have been 'cammed out' and need replacing, as you'd expect, the screws are not available separately, so L319, L320, L322, L405 & L494's (and probably others) need to have replacement airboxes - unless you use the Jaguar part number...

Excuse me for being curious, but are those screws steel or plastic and do they screw into plastic?

They are steel screws with the consistency of a warm brie and they screw into plastic. Most of mine have been slotted by a previous owner/garage. So glad to have the part number now and I can order a full set of them. Bet they're. a bargain too!

Typical JLR quality  Screws like that should be available from nut & bolt suppliers.

I doubt JLR make them but their purchasing department will have found the "best possible price". Plenty on eBay of OE quality I'm sure. It's too dark and rainy to go and count them but I think I need 12 for my car, they are of course sold in packs of 5, 10, 20, 30.

B*ll*cks hit a very large pothole tonight. SRS warning light on and airbag fault in message centre. Will put diagnostics on tomorrow and see if it gives me any pointers where to look

Six per airbox, I got them for £0.62 each, retail may be a bit more, maybe 20% more.
TBH, my L319 had them replaced at ten years old but no power tools have been used on them, just the correct (PH2) driver.
