Talking about fault isoluation, I took the first bit of lunch break to havr a closer look at the fuse box situation. Well, the original one did get off the original harness without cutting. And it is a lot harder plastics than the one on the new harness, which explains why the new one just doesn't clamp as tightly around the fuses, not closing circuits at times.

Next step: remove the front part of the main harness from the car, again, try to get new fuse box of the harness (including cutting, it is trash either way), try to get the original one on WITHOUT cutting, install everything and hope for the best! Could be easy, could take the whole week, who knows?

Anyway, the original fuse box looks a lot more solid than the spare one as well. So I'll use that, including the majority of the dirt and grit, not to jinx anything. And that way, the car might take the harness transplant better. So far, she seems to reject it any way she can! 😳

can i do the inner tie rod myself? i've read about needing a special tool or risk damaging the steering rack

What do you class as the inner tie rod?
The arm that comes off the streering rack to the hub?

JLR like to call a ball joint breaker a special tool ;)

Inner tie rod is the bit between the steering rack and the outer tie rod.
It has the ball joint that screws onto the bar coming out of the rack.
Special tool is essentially a very long socket, i think

looks like they call it a drum stick

Ok found it in the manual but no intructions on changing.

Why do you think you need too? want too

Got round to sorting my Bluetooth module, thought water got in it as it was damp ages back, anyway opened up and it’s like new so had another look, whatever it was kept dragging the fibre optics down.. anyway opened the original plug and cut and crimped fly lead from module to original loom and everything came to life job done now have Bluetooth again.

Faffed around with the speakers in the subwoofer that was supposedly blown. Nothing seen on either diaphragm.🤷‍♀️ She's off to Gibsons again soon to spend a week or so in down time, whilst the injectors are checked/fixes. Hopefully the magicians can sort out the subwoofer issue during that time.
She has also had her 'pre-med' done for her visit to the surgeon next month. 🙈

Following on from this ...

Today I finally got around to opening the bonnet. I wriggled the viscous fan and it was wobbly! That wasn't right so swapped it with the one off my scrapper. Took it for a test drive and nothing. We'll see how it goes this week.

I the meantime, look at the fan! Got it off just before it exploded I reckon.

Worthwhile swapping but it wasn't the noise!

On the way home today I stopped at some traffic lights and the almighty racket kicked off, startling the pedestrians waiting to cross. I stared fixedly at the Jap car next to me and shook my head sadly and mouthed Jap rubbish before setting off. As soon as I could I pulled in as the noise was still going. Bonnet up, screwdriver against ear and I found it! Aircon pump iss making an almighty racket!

Strangely I can now make the noise come back by switching the aircon off. Odd? Switch it off and on a few times and it goes quiet again. My aircon failed a month or so ago so it does fit. Not sure what has failed but it doesn't sound good.

Got home and took the belt off. Hopefully that will keep it quiet until I can get someone to drain the system down for me.

Had a few months of relatively trouble free motoring so all good. And I'm writing this in the dark, opposite side of the house, and under sheets so hopefully the spiteful bitch won't hear me thinking it.

But I did do the gearbox filter and oil and the transfer box oil today. Was going to do the diff oils as well but some git in work had taken the allen key I needed to get them open. So said **** it and came home for cake and coffee.......

Are they not just 1/2" drive sockets?
