My 200tdi tratter has both and the battery charge and oil pressure lamps on the dash warn of this. both come on when the Cambelt snaps to cheerfully warn me that the crank and camshaft are no longer in relative positions to each other.why do some (newer) cars, have a camshaft position sensor and also one for the crankshaft?
one is directly connected to the other, either by gears, chain or belt
is it to deal with stretch/wear etc?
Maybe it's to do with the variable valve timing employed on many modern carswhy do some (newer) cars, have a camshaft position sensor and also one for the crankshaft?

Had the rear ashtray out today to clean it all up , 2 screws (p38 btw) hold it all in, it's in two parts, the underneath the top part errr..part is incorporated a cover for the springy thing that lifts the cubby lid. I got a new gas strut for Duchess as it wouldn't lift the lid up and I thought that was the culprit. Although it was better, the lid still needed lifting to open fully. While the ashtray was out, I put a few drops of light oil on the tubes that the bar runs through ie- the hinge, and it springs up luvvly now..
Engine management ? was so much simpler with carbs and distributorwhy do some (newer) cars, have a camshaft position sensor and also one for the crankshaft?

But so much less fuel efficient It is a bit OTT now thoughEngine management ? was so much simpler with carbs and distributor
Emmissions, power and economy.. Diesels are finished. Donkeys I tell you are the way forward if we simplified everything and shopped nearer to home the pollution would drop and if things were built to last longer serviceable there'd be less productivity and money saved for most. Unfortunately we have to cater for everyone but not everyone can be catered for...But so much less fuel efficient It is a bit OTT now though
That's what I'm going back toEngine management ? was so much simpler with carbs and distributor
