What did you do with your Range Rover today

Number 6 pot had hit the valve for some reason which was most likely the initial symptom of rough running i had. The new injectors, maff and map sensor i fitted made no difference. He says the Turbo and F,I.P are fine. Its just the engine that needs replacing or refurbing and the cost of that will be high so its no longer a viable option for me to continue with which is why i have decided to sell her on as a project. Prior to this the car was super rare Westminster model with a excellent service record and in excellent condition for its age which is why i bought it.
Sadly it was just not meant to be for me and the dealer who sold me the car will now not play ball at all. He reckons the £2000 he gave me back off the purchase price was enough as far as he is concerned so i think i am stuffed on that score.
Even if he did offer to take the car back and refund me i will still be down nearly £3000 on all the new bits and extra's i bough for the car to make her a real minter. My fault i suppose BUT you don't expect a car to go bang/duff with in 100 miles and 1 week of buying it do you.
If anyone on here is interested in buying it off me to fix up with a replacement engine then PM me.

Cheers.

Now that is bad sad news, I feel for you my man. best to say how much your thinking about selling it, you might get more interest and offers
Cheers mate BUT this is now a PM thing and NOT something i wish to be discussing on an open forum. If anyone out there is GENUINELY interested then they will PM me and arrange something. If not it will be scrapped or put in my brothers field for his chickens to live in.

I have now seen what looks like a beautiful looking 2002 02 plate P38 in Burgundy Red for sale on ebay @ £9995 with only 75k miles on the clock and a full service history main dealers and garaged from new. Its a 4.6 v8 petrol gas guzzler though which i initially shy'd away from.
All thoughts, advice and guidance on such a model will be appreciated or if anyone out there has a lovely looking V8 and they want a TD Westminster then maybe we could arrasnge something there to soften the blow to me.

Cheers

Throwing a Westminster in a field as a chicken hut or scrapping is heresy, you'd be better off financially selling it for parts, and they'd be put to good use especially being a Westminster interior pieces are hard to come by, the wood mainly..

And £9500 is too steep for a P38 you can pick up a good Vogue for around 3 to 6 grand if I was spending £9500 on a RR I'd be getting a late L322 Supercharged or a nice Classic.

But price is no indicator, anyone can stick lipstick on a pig... ;)

Don't do anything rash. I think you're right in that this should be covered legally by trader.

Sounds a bit odd. Did Turners do the timing chains when they did the other work?

@wammers - what's your opinion? Fixable?

Second hand engine off the Bay isn't much although heaven knows what nick it will be.

New valve/s con rod and a new piston should sort it as long as its only one cylinder plus timing chains tensioners guides, gaskets and labour but it may develop when you tear it down, shells, oilseals etc,etc.. Just shows that a pile of receipts for work done is not worth a toss.Sorry for the position you find yourself in.i haven't eaten all the midget gems yet, only the black ones. :(

I refuse to say much, as I have enough going on and refuse to jinx things BUT I bought a 2nd hand engine off the bay. ;)

Any news?

Yes!

I've had to work on the Mini due to a seized caliper, then an oil and filter change. Then, forgot the plasterer was coming along with the joiner to sort some bits before the Decorator arrives to do upstairs. As a result totally forgot to buy the paint the Decorator needs for the utility room.

So, I've been doing 500 other things *apart* from fixing the damn RR. But that's on the schedule list for this weekend.

.. Depending on the other plasterer and electrician. And weather. And tiredness levels

Not going any further with it now guys. I have had contact from the dealer tonight who has been ignoring me albeit i now feel he knows that hye is stuffed. He tried the mouthy abusive touch again which got him nowhere and now he has calmed down a bit he has agreed to refund me the rest of the money i paid him for the car and once he does i will let him collect it from the garage who have kindly agreed for me to leave it there FREE of charge. I will just have to pay them for the initial investigation time this morning where they found the engine to be mullered.

I will hopefully go over there tomorow and start to remove the new extra's i fitted to the car and bring them home and sell them all on ebay and then re-evaluate my situation of IF i need another car or not. I dont really as i have 2 classics and a scooter and my missus has her car on the driveway too which i can use albeit i have always wanted a RR P38.

Im gutted by it all and it has made me ill. If i do decide to buy another P38 it will indeed be looked in to more deeply.

What other classics you got?

The P38 is a unique car to drive/own I've had a Range Rover Classic 3.9 "rare" manual a 6.0 v12 Jag xj305 and an S type i've also driven a fair few others and nowt feel like the P38 even had an L322 for a very short period of time..

Just something about it that keeps the P38 with me...

The Classic, L322 and Xj are gone and didn't stay that long, but the P38 just keeps lingering on something about it......

I really thought it would be the same case for me and a P38 albeit sadly it just turned in to the worse nightmare i have ever had when it comes to owning cars and trust me i have owned a lot over the years.

My other classics in my " mancave " are a concours condition 1973 Rover P5B saloon. I am the 3rd owner from new and it has a genuine 63k miles on the clock with one of the best history files you will ever see and read. Its a total one off minter.

I also own an equally mint 1978 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow 2 which again is as near to concours as you will get and only 46k miles on the clock from new.

I also own a MINT fully restored Red 1983 Vespa 50cc Special scooter in the full MOD/Quadrophenia guise with only 150 miles on the clock since its nut and bolt restoration completed last year.
