Nothing. She is a perfect example of the breed. I recognise I am toying with fate here, but I really do have the most reliable P38 in the world.

True enough. The biggest improvement I've made is slap on a good battery which not only holds charge is the correct rating for my engine.

Sure they aren't shoe string budget vehicles, but look after them and they'll treat you right.

Mine has never let me down, never not needed something fixed either:rolleyes: I'll have had it 4 years next month and despite the problems it's been cheap to run.

Beyond replacing wear and tear items mine hasn't asked for anything more than you'd expect from a high miles motor. I have nothing that needs fixing, but things I want to fix, such as a cracked bumper from pheasant strike, scratches on drivers side from a supermarket trolley assault. New parcel shelf because I slightly broke mine a few weeks back. Nothing mechanical but still things I want to have in ship shape all the same.

Current "to do" list includes gearbox and headlining. Things that don't work that I'm not going to fix include the heated seats, heated windscreen and the heated mirrors. I miss the heated mirrors but photochromic replacements are just too expensive to justify replacing them.
 
Removed carpets from boot area, inspected for rust - found some!! Wire brushed rust, used jenolite and painted. Some welding to do in the near future. Classics are great but it's a long running battle against the tin worm!

The gearbox is probably more than the vehicle is worth, but then what other luxury motor could you afford on a pension? The 2grand needed to put it right is still cheaper than a half decent replacement vehicle.

I am concerned about the miles on my vehicle as it is getting very close to 200k which if you believe the rumours is about 50k more than it should be good for.

I lost heated mirrors on one side a few weeks back and it was hell, I didn't realise how much difference it made, especially when raining. But I did only need £14 to replace the glass which solved the problem. I believe you'd need a zero on that, so I can see why you're not doing it.

Headlining isn't a mechanical problem, you could just tear the whole thing off and run without it. :p
Or gaffatape a quilted blanket to the roof.

Mine has fixed itself though. It started sagging above my head, but when I gave the lining a full inspection to see how far it has gone, there was no sagging anymore. o_O

2 grand for a gearbox? You jest, or you're thinking of an L322. £725 from Ashcrofts exchange last time I looked if I fit myself, or £1350 or so fitted.

I caved to peer pressure. Apparently we just had to go an replace the stupid dead dwarf hamster. So I did a bunch of driving, but that is mostly irrelevant, what I got to witness was the biggest scumbag in the known universe. Was stood at the till in Pets at Home looking out of the window at how handsome my P38 looked when I saw a scumbag in a Nissan SquishSquash struggle to get parked next to me and then throw the drivers door open into a Citroen C2 putting the biggest dent you've seen in your life from a dooring into the side of their car. At this point I was walking to my Rangie when I saw the scumbag walking around to the other side of the car to throw another door open when I blipped the locks and saw them actually fall to the ground to catch their door from hitting my Rangie.

I guess they didn't feel confident to ruin someone's vehicle if they knew they were watching. Luckily the owner of the C2 wasn't far behind so I was able to point them in the direction of the owner of the vehicle that ruined the side of their car. I hope the insurance company takes them to the cleaners. Nothing worse than the scum who do that to another person's car.

Believe it or not, I rarely find time to pull out my phone to take photos of things happening. If it is interesting enough to require a photo, usually it is too important to waste time taking photos of it.

Or is it only me who thinks like this? :confused:
