it's possible it's a touch worn at 260k+ mls .. It's been doing the clunk as it slowns down to walking pace for a a year or two and I think it's telling it's nearly time to thrown in the hat

They go through phases, a period of problems followed by a trouble free period, at least that's my experience. Lexus sounds expensive.
So did I once, an LS400 they were cheap but, in the last couple of years prices have gone silly and, I was put off with it having a cam belt instead of a timing chain.
