What did you do with your Range Rover today

well after wanting a rangey for ages i got a 4.0 v8 p38 last week and spent today finding out the full extent of how much ive been fleeced!!! Needs rebuild or new engine i think. Head gasket gone leaking oil everywhere but not overheating or bubbling in expansion tank i expect that will be next, what shall i do? Devastated!!

Buying cars as seen and approved from scrap yards is never a good idea, specially when you don't have a bloody clue what you are looking at.

took my new to me injectors to get tested and found that all 6 were buggered at a cost of £190

Clean them yourself??

you will need an ultrsonic cleaner though (£40 Maplins) a 27mm extra deep socket or 6 point spanner, a bench vice, a flat sanding surface for finishing ( I use 2000 grit wet n dry tapped to a sheet of glass and use a little clean diesel or paraffin to lubricate ) torque wrench for putting it all back together (70-80nm)

few brews and that's it, nothing inside the injector will fly out across your garage! and as these are knackered anyway, what have you got to lose?

All six? Just by law of averages I expect some to be okay! Is it the tester or the injectors at fault? How did they fail? Leakage? Spray pattern?

the testers are the best in the area and have been in the business for years they failed on both leakage and pattern need new nozzles he said the range would run with them in but not very well :(

Which is what i said earlier you can't just clean an 100,000 mile injector and expect it to work properly. It's basically like stripping your cylinder head, cleaning it and putting all the pitted and worn valves back in without grinding them. A bloody waste of time.

I never suggested just stripping and cleaning, you will have to do some hard work for it to be a success. But it will same you some money

Bollocks you can't do anything about worn seats and weak springs. You can't check them for pattern and crack pressure without seriously expensive test equipment, have done a lot in my time. But if you like polishing turds be my guest.

by the time they have worn out using dino juice, then I would be sending them away for more professional look at them, however removing sticking springs, or weak spray patterns caused by running on cooking oil then you may as well DIY it
