Some squify lobes their matey
Bit personal, leave his ears out of it Mark. Some squify lobes their matey
Looking at the data sheet it has ZDDP in it however not to the same degree as a more dedicated oil "Amsoil Z-Rod" for example has high ZDDP but it is £23 per litre!Does the Commer oil have good ZDDP content which is good for the cam lobes?? I have been using Mobil 1 10w60 long life oil in most of my classics for the last few years with great results and less frequent changes albeit i don't leave it too long either.
Thats an odd wear mark..
That's why i use the VR1 20/50, it's got plenty of zddp and also isn't hugely expensive. It's also a reasonable brandLooking at the data sheet it has ZDDP in it however not to the same degree as a more dedicated oil "Amsoil Z-Rod" for example has high ZDDP but it is £23 per litre!
the Viscosity rating is one of the most important things to look at the comma 10w40 has a VR off 155 which is a higher rating than the equivalent Castrol and mobil 10w40 product.
And it is £17 a gallon.
I used to use 10w60 Castrol FST however the price was prohibitive £60 for 4 litres IIRC which isn't really reasonable..
With the Rover V8 you're better off changing the oil more regularly as apposed to keeping an expensive oil in longer
I've just changed the oil in mine and it has only done 2k since the last service, but being cheap its worth doing frequently.
They were all visibly dished, this one obviously hadn't been spinning as it's designed to and the cam was hitting the same spot over and over.Thats an odd wear mark..
Were any of them dished?
My driveway has lots of territorial marks tooWalked past Bixs' bus and pretended not to see the huge oil patch underneath. We're not at all bringing down the tone of the neighbourhood....
part of the character of the P38, it likes to leave a few drops here and there.Walked past Bixs' bus and pretended not to see the huge oil patch underneath. We're not at all bringing down the tone of the neighbourhood....

It's the feed for the knackered lifters I would be concerned about. You did note their positions didn't you.Anyone know how/where oil drains from the lifter gallery on the v8? The back 4 on the passenger side were overrun with oil, is have thought it should have drained by now, as the others had. Wondering if there's a blockage somewhere
Drivers side was fine, signs of oil but not drowned. Pass. side front 4 were the same, the back 4 were drowned, i thought oil came from the front? It's the feed for the knackered lifters I would be concerned about. You did note their positions didn't you.
