it's far too busy here for my liking these days plus we've got plenty of land to use and abuse up there, along with 2 block built out buildings each of which would house 6 vehicles so i figure one will be the workshop the other me store - don't think there'll be much left here when we go, am planning a couple of trips with a 10 tonner after xmas to move me gear up

technically it was purcahsed for her birthday prezzie, but you know what it's like :)

kno what yer mean , tis busy

yer sound like yer sorted out with the place then, its what yer need really, am still tryin to find somewhere round ere with two big barns, nothing affordable tho, would have the house with it if i could find a good small holding, where have they all gone? :(

Just read this from start to finish, and what a great thread!, without doubt, one of the best threads I have ever read anywhere!:)
A few questions;
Whats it like useing the valve lapper in a drill?, been trying to get my dad to use one for ages, but he's soo old fashioned:)
What is your day job?

i used to lap valves in with a leccy drill, not one of those new valve lappers.as long as you keep the valve seat well lubricated with grinding paste for the initial lapping then do a final lapping by hand.never had a problem either.

hi, thanks, glad you liked it, i have spent a hell of a lot of time doing it, hence the dates of the posts, but its coming together now, once the back axles done its the bulkhead then pick up a galvo chassis, and rebuild time :)

the valve lapper is ok , but not as good as doing it by hand, it only turns half a turn left to right so MIGHT have a chance or uneven lapping if you dont rotate every time, i do it by hand as a rule, bit at a time till its spot on.

im a carpenter / joiner by trade, bespoke kitchens and bathrooms etc and general building / contract work,

yesterday i got the axle casing stripped to bare metal and sprayed with redoxide, ordered a few more bits from LR series will post the pics monday,

right , its coming on slowly

that does look rather nice, i tryed doing one of my diff's once, the front bearing on it was buggered, but a little past my skill (and tool) level.

doubt it , yer just have to work in sequence, keepin all the bits in order, replacing worn as yer go, either buy tools as yer need them or borrow them .

ok,dont forget about the kettle when yer over this way.;);)

sounds good to me :)

That sounds so obvious that i'd never think of it,

in all honesty it was my confidence i hadn't been into land rovering long didn't have the right tools, or information
