I've been watching your resto as inspiration for mine (although an S3). One thing that's caught my eye is the position of the solenoid. Mine is currently on the back of the battery tray (which looks just like yours). I want to revert to the original airbox which is supposed to fit on the back of the battery tray and yet like yours i've got no brackets or remains of.

Hope you don't mind me asking but i was wondering what you were going to do. Got a K&N fitted which i'm not keen on.

hi, i have the old chassis under restoration in one of my lockups at the mo, it has the old battery tray with air filter brackets etc, the solonoid was attatched in the same place on that too, upper bulkhead, as long as thers a good route for the cables, keeping them nice and straight and free from exhaust manifolds etc yet should be able to mount it anywhere you like,

there we go , as yer can see from the pic its as original , but with the new galv chassis , to keep some room in the engine bay, i will prob be using a K&N for the time being,

I was thinking of moving the solenoid to the bulkhead. But the brackets for the air filter just don't seem to be there... which seems odd (or even remains where it's been ground off or some such). I've never been a fan of K&N as i don't believe they give adequate filtering. Hold the filter up to the light and the holes are about a 1mm in diameter - one's supposed to use their oil which attracts dirt but... i don't have much faith in them which is why i wanted to put the original back on (which is what i've got but no mounting plate it seems).

thanks

This is what I aspire to! You never know, the fact that the chassis is so knackered on my s3 might spur me on to do a full rebuild in the vein of what you've done 90tc!
