Hi Everyone - im not sure if im expecting too much but the steering on my old 90 is crap! Shes just passed her MOT again so nothin major wrong I assume. Ive replaced all the front suspension buhes, no visible play in the box or free movement at the wheel rim. Tyres are chunky Grabber m/t. She handles fine on the motorway, but hit a bad patch on a B road an she is all over the place. Any ideas please guys?

thanks
steve

probably steering from the rear.......check all your rear suspension bushes as well as the ball & socket on the wishbone on the rear....pretty common for this to start playing up......wot i do is get her on a flat surface, 1st gear, the get under and rock back and forth with yer foot and feel all the suspension bits....if its poked yull feel it......shud be zero play on all bushes

Swivel balls?

Thanks Bushtoy - it does sometimes feel like the back end is moving - to check , do you mean push the truck with it first gear so it sort of rocks on the transmission?

thanks

yeah, thats wot i do....also use a crow bar to test in all directions....i generally replace all suspension bushes once a year....cuts the crap

I had a quick broggle at lunchtime with my 3 foot broggling stick and no obvious play in any of the rear susp bushes - they dont look as if theyve been changed for a while mind. What was a bit scary was the amount of sideways movement i could get on the truck from the tyre sidewalls - im running at 32psi on 10.5 by 15s - is this normal?

With regard to front swivels, i jacked both sides up and def no swivel pin wear - would insufficient pre load give rise to steering probs?

thanks

steve

Hey Up - Im having much the same trouble, wandering from side to side I have checked the tracking/wheel alignment and the front offside needs to be toed in by almost 9mm!!
Can anybody tell me how to shift it meself as most tyre places wont touch it with a barge pole. I noticed that the two rods from the wheels are slightly bent/damaged.
