Hi all. I Have a problem,on my drive to France for my
annual holiday my p38 has developed a fault. At between 30-40mph the car is bouncy its as if the front n/s wheel is the shape of an egg. It then smooths out til 60mph then it returns. Has anyone got any ideas to what may be causing this.
Or what components to check. Before I ring the red pennant again. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

New air bags new shocks fitted wheel nuts tight as a ducks arse
While its happening the steering wheel is not wobbling about. Like you get with unbalanced wheels.

No genuine wheels. Removed all dead cats before journey down here. ( so I had room for the French ones) been under today tyre looks fine. Everything seems tight.

Is the car level when it does it?

Just thinking that the EAS may be going bonkers and putting too much pressure in the air spring on that corner for some reason, then as you reach motorway speed, the EAS lowers and reduces the pressure just in time to smooth out at 60 mph.

Just a thought!

Thanks for all your suggestions guys.
When it does it the front n/s you can see goes up down
up down so you get a rocking motion then as speed increases
it becomes less noticeable.you don't think it could be anything
To do with front diff or anything on the drive train do you
Wheel bearings anything like that

If the up and down movement is fast, it's unlikely to be the EAS as the response time is pretty slow for height changes. CV joints can do strange things on cars with IFS but on a beam axle it would seem unlikely that a disintegrating joint could cause much up/down movement, wheel bearing? Not sure but usually makes lots of noise. Worth jacking the front wheel up and testing the VCU and the wheel for play.

Have jacked her up and there's no movement/play on suspected wheel
Either up down or side to side. Now recently the car has been going up down on
The back when towing ie the back will lift up for a while then drop down again
but when it goes into motorway setting this stops.

You are supposed to tow with suspension locked in standard mode. Read the manual.

Need to read the EAS for fault codes, could be the driver pack playing up or a height sensor. With the ignition off and a door open, try parting and pushing back the connectors in the EAS box a few times.

I know. But when every couple of miles the back end pops up
and it's like driving a jacked up 1970's Capri it's better in motorway mode. Anyway it's only
a couple of inches between the too settings. And for all the none female p38 drivers
what's a couple of inches.

You can manually lock it in motorway height, press the lock button, then the down button when in normal height and it will go down to motorway height and stay there. As Wammers said, you should always lock the suspension when towing, failure to do so could result in loss of control due to snaking as the C of G of the load changes.
When you jacked up the wheel, did you check the VCU?
