v6 to diesel conversion

hello,my name is brett from canada.have posted on disco forum but not here yet.i have recently converted a v8 disco to 300 tdi.now i am looking to convert a freelander v6 auto to diesel.it appears that all of our 2.5 v6's suffer from dropped liners/head gasket failure.diesels are not available here.
my question then is the jatco auto for the v6 the same as the td4?
will they bolt up to the same gearbox or is the bolt pattern different.
i know i would require all the electronics associated with the td4 engine management system.just wondering about the mechanical side of things

Very expensive to do this. The gearing in the Jatco auto v6 is different to the td4 version. Don't know if the auto's mechanical connection is the same for v6 and td4. Don't forget to buy the required computers, wiring harnesses, fool tank and pumps, new fool lines, all the engine mounts, replacement ird etc. Think the drive shafts are different too. Oh, and the vcu is different too. Not forgetting the prop shafts. The list goes on. Hence why peeps don't even try to do it. It's just not worth the money to change a Freelander v6 to td4 diesel. But if yer does go for it it would make an interesting fred. Take loads of pic's.
 
so the best thing would be to buy engine,transmission and transfercase and prop shafts
as well as all the electronic associated with the diesel.

By the time you've bought all the bits... it will cost a small fortune. Seriously mate changing a v6 to td4 is significantly more difficult than a rusty old disco v8 petrol to 300tdi diesel. For a start off the Freelander engine is heavily reliant on computers. The parts required will add up to quite a bit as you need so much. It will take weeks of work if not months. You’ll need access to T4 testbook which is land rover diagnostic software, to do some computer setup. It wouldn’t surprise me if the existing computers wouldn’t want to talk to the new td4 computer when you fit it. Like the abs etc.

The cheaper option would be to buy a donor td4 vehicle with everything you need. Makes sure it all works ok and is in reasonable condition. Then push yer v6 off a cliff or burn it. Bingo. Yer now has a td4 Freelander. Simples. :)

Trust me. Your mission is near impossible. The cost and time just isn’t worth it.

pushing the v6 off a cliff is the easy part.fining a td4 in canada is the hard part
 
Lack of diesels could mean you struggle for parts in furture. If you really want one then you may need to import it.
