Hi, I had the back wheels of my 90 at the weekend and I noticed a few holes in the brake discs. Not in the part that goes in the calliper but still. I have been thinking if upgrading the discs and brakes anyway so I guess I'll have to bring that forward. Anyway, I think I might try vented discs. Is there any recommendations or brands to avoid (britpart)? Cheers

Holes? Sounds like you've got vented discs already.

Usually the back brakes are solid discs. What you can get however is rear discs with grooves and dimples in them. I put some on mine in early 2013

On some models (including mine) the front discs are really vented, in that there are two discs separated by an air gap with reinforcing webs across it. If you've got a solid disc front end it might be possible to fit vented discs if you also change the calliper for one compatible with vented discs, because as you might expect, they're thicker than the solid ones. Once again, you can get fancy ones with grooves and dimples. However, I can't swear to the compatibility because I haven't tried it myself. My discs and pads are EBC brand ones. I'm pretty pleased with them so far and they seem to be lasting really well with loads of meat left on the pads and no lip appearing on the discs after around 30,000 miles. Some people say that if you do a lot of offroading, the grooves and dimples can accelerate wear because they retain a lot of grit. I drive in mud and on unsurfaced roads sometimes, but I put the majority of my miles in on tarmac so I'm quite pleased with the durability so far.

Cheers brown. Might go for a set similar. Think I'll just do pads and discs for now. Might go in for a full overhaul next year.

And drilled and cross cut brakes make a lovely zzzzzzz sound when braking 9 the road. Used to love them in some of my cars

No problems with BP discs.
Used their standard vented discs on my 90 for many years and then when I decided to refurbish the axles I fitted their vented / slotted / drilled discs & Mintex pads to the front and slotted / drilled discs & Mintex pads on the rear, 2-years on no worries.
Prior to that I had fitted their vented / slotted / drilled discs & Mintex pads to my wife's Freelander and it was the outstanding performance and reliability that prompted me to fit the same set-up to my 90.

PS. Yes you do get that Zzzzzzzzz when braking hard, doesn't affect wear rates though.

These holes are defo not meant to be there. Size of a 50 pence piece. Must of dinked against something a rock. If I ever get a spare moment I'll post a photo. But I reckon the next time I take the wheel of, I'll be changing the discs.
