I just recieved the RAC report!

according to them this vehicle is a complete mess!

I have never seen such detail, very impressive and worth the money spent IMO.
They recomend that I do not purchase the vehicle in its present state and so does my UK contact.

So the search continues.

Thanks.

Oh well. Better safe than sorry. Good luck with the hunt for another vehicle.:)

Here is an 05 that is just about in my range.

80K miles.
Hopefully going for inspection.

I have to do some more research and get an accurate quote on the shipping .

Thing is, anything that lands in the Bahamas for over $20k including shipping I have to pay 75% !!!!
Anything under is 55%.
So I want to stay below $20k.

Thanks.

out of interest have you ever been anywhere other than europe in a land rover? i am not arguing the td5 engine is no good, im arguing it is less suitable in many parts of the world than a simpler engine.

at the end of the day, this isnt just my opinion, it is the opinion of many many others, and also the opinion of land rover.

i prefer the tdi engine, easier to sort out, plenty of torque and power, well known engine, with most mechanics able to work on them, easier to source parts in other parts of the world, cheaper to source parts, etc etc.

its not about being backwards, it is about common sense, as i have said before. and i think the fact that land rover use 300tdi in vehicles destined for less developed areas is a case in point no?

Hmm, think you may be getting a tad carried away with the idea of 300tdi is the only choice for outside of UK, the fella lives in the bahamas, not the feckin moon!! Damn good shipping network available these days!!

All I will say is good luck in keeping all of these 300tdis going for ever more - isnt going to happen, then you will have to eat a nice big slice of humble pie, wedge you tail firmly between your legs, and buy a TD5!!! or **** abolut repairing old knackered **** for the next 60 years!!

And...FWIW, this is the same old **** that can be read at least monthly, and the same people say the same thing over and over!!! A simple diagnostic reader is the only difference in tooling needed in reality, but the 100k or so extra miles on the tdi may have less of a wonderful effect!!

ROW always get a delayed deal on newer products, dosnt just stop with LRs!!

I was anti TD5 right up to the point that I bought mine. Yes they need diagnostics and can be infuriating sometimes but I do prefer the drive of it over my that of a 300tdi.

Unfortunately so does the ballast.:mad::mad::mad:

Still searching.

I wont give up!

Found a 300tdi at the airport, Heathrow I think.
Ex-Airline with only 16000 miles!!!!!
However its a bit out of my price range.

We have decided to avoid "private sellers" and try to deal with Land Rover specialist.

Thanks.

What do you guys think about a 90 "Pickup" 300 tdi with 60K miles?
I plan to take the roof off as soon as it gets here.
I figure a pickup would be the best bet for conversion?

that'll be nice in the bahamas.Only reason id do it round here is to let the rain back out.

Well, looks like the deal is done.
The dealer is sending the bank info in the morning for the deposit.
I will also be able to buy all the service spares that I need AND the dealer is going to service the vehicle before it leaves!

Im excited!

I have never even ridden in a Land Rover!
I just got rid of my 1973 CJ-5 that Ive owned for about 15 years.
Now I have space in the garage for the 90.

I cant Wait!
Will take about a month to get to the Bahamas:mad::mad::mad::doh:

I was thinking.

I am going to change the wheels and tires.
I want something more aggressive.
Should I get the wheels and tires in the UK or wait till its here and get them out of the USA?
If UK where is a good place to have a look?
Any recomendations on size or brand?

Thanks.

Its official!!!!

I am the proud owner of my first Land Rover Defender 90 300tdi Pickup.

nice one mate, i dont think you will be disappointed, and i think in the long run you may see the advantages of the 300tdi!

Toy.

The last jeep I owned for 15 years, was an on going project. I just gave it to my step son (73 AMC CJ-5). Its actually on its way via boat to one of the family island where my step son lives (Abaco)
I had many years enjoyment with that jeep.

B U T I always wanted a 90.

I plan to fix it up a bit.
Remove the roof, lift kit, nicer wheels and more aggressive tires.
some under carriage protection...........

I will be shipping the 90 to various family islands in the Bahamas via Mail Boat and do some exploring/beaching/relaxing/shagging on holiday time.

Thanks.
