Tyres for a Landy 90 (51 plate)

Can anyone help with a novice?

I need new tyres for my Landy
90% road time and currently have Cooper A/T 245 R16 70
---They look too small and a genuine dealer in London suggested that I put larger tyres on! Any suggestions welcomed - the Kwik fit specialist today suggested that I hit this site to establish whether I would do damage to the "Diff" ---I know what that means but not sure what spec I can go up to

ps THis is my first defender and I love it better then the wifes Brand new Freelander HSE !!!!!!!!

It's a shame we don't have an IT specialist who could devise pop-ups which appear when some one registers, or includes the following key words in a question.

If you want to know about tyres for a disco press 1
If you want to know about tyres for a Land Rover press 2
If you want to know about tyres for a Freelander - you're having a larf
If you want know about lifts press 3
If you want know about batteries press 4 etc, etc

And at the end it could say if your enquiry is about something else not listed here press #, which takes them to the search function

You can press * at any time and ask your question direct, but you will get flamed, as all knob-heads do and made to feel very unwelcome.

We could then sell the system to other fora and makes loads of money (after paying me 20% for IPR).
 
do a search...but as im bored at work, i might part with some information. Stick with all terrains as you wont need any more than that. you coukld go up to 235/85 as they are standard on a lot of vehicles and wont affect your diffs. You dont need to think about changing diff ratios until you get up to the +35" area

ive had 35 and 36" tyres on standard diffs with no problems
 
wasnt saying you will need to change diffs with sizes above that, you just need to think about your whole setup. ie if you've got an underpowered old engine or you've got a higher geared transfer box on etc. etc
