Evening All,

Looking to replace my tow rope, gave up the ghost last winter, now is several pieces,

What do people recommend ?

Dont fancy kinetic ropes as I have no experience of using them and am well aware of how wrong using them can go,

Is it safe to assume,
PM644 | Pro Comp Recovery Strap. 3in x 30foot. 30,000lb rating.
Can be used in the same manor as a tow rope ?

I'm also sourcing a few D rings (so i have something easy to attach to the stranded vehicles)

Was considering a winch, but same thoughts as kinetic ropes, plus I cant justify the cost of having it !

Any equipment would be used on a defender 90 with universal Tow bar on rear and recovery points attached attached to the steering guard,

Ideas ?

Tow strap 4.5mtr 14ton with tested shackles

Thats what a few of us use in my area. A nice good length, its the maximum length legally that you should have between a towing vehicle and the towee. Bear in mind though that the standard shackles they supply in that kit are 3 1/4ton which is usually fine but they can do others. Generally speaking, you would hook a loop onto the towing pin of your defender, and then use a shackle onto the recovery eye or loop of another vehicle. The weakest link is usually somewhere in the other cars front bumper mounting.

Longer would be better off road you can always double it up of you need a short strap, you could get an 8m and use it as a bridal on the road if needed.

I have the pro comp strop you linked to. Used it for the first time this weekend, very impressed so far. it's got a bit of give in it so isn't as harsh as using a normal strop, but not so much give that it's kinetic.

Procomp alright as its seminkinetic i.e has some give you simply can't beat IMO and experience a 24mm 12 tonne rope recovery rope.

Anyone saying get a strop has never been or needed to do a serious recovery.

Strops are for winching ropes for recovery. Simple!

There are various rants usually me on here and please do search because a winch strip attached to a vehicle can cause tremendous damage to vehicle tow point an occupants backs.

Rope rope rope rope strops are cheap but ROPE!!

Forget that purple strap it's only good for winching or taking up the slack and gently pulling in which case the vehicle wasn't thy stuck in the first place.

Cant open link on phone but avoid metal innards.

Search ropey buoys on ebay 8 meter 24mm recovery rope not kenetic

Thy did a cracking deal for me but throw their shackles away or ask to upgrade.

I have had one of their ropes for 7 years I have similar ropes for over 11 years looked after they are grand. They were rated at 12t and have earned their keep.

To prove it we ave pulled fire engines and really really stuck motors out

If you sill disbelieve YouTube team recovery bircham Newton nationals and they get grief year in year out!

Just to add my old man has his recovery gear from 1990 still going strong it gets cough " borrowed" from time to time when we have a serious problem and need more gear. It was used in anger way back then and still in GWO not used nowadays he's mellowed a bit since then.
