L322 Torque convertor

Hey all , brought the range rover last Sunday, been brilliant and can't fault it , the only thing that is bothering me is the torque convertor I brought It with the fault so I was expecting to have some problem , it isn't that noticeable you just have to put your foot down abit more instead of pulling off slowly , so I'm just wondering if there's anyone who supplys these ? I've looked all over the net but they seem pretty hard to find ,I've found a few 're con ones but I want a new one if I can find one , if there's anyone on here who supply them then drop me a message , it's a 4.4 petrol btw 53 plate

Not sure why the fault you’ve described makes you think there’s an issue with your torque converter but you can buy new units from places like JPAT (www.jpat.co.uk) & Sussex Auto Parts (www.sussexautos.co.uk). Tell them you need an F38 or A85 model for a ZF 5HP24. New converters aren’t cheap though (around £1000), hence the popularity of re-manufacturing them. Can you explain your issue in more detail?

I was just told that when I brought the car it had a recon gear box fitted,an the torque convertor was 're con to , an the fault is the torque convertor , from what I read thought it was the right thing , any suggestions what else it could be then ?

The symptoms of what I think is the torque convertor :

In the morning when the car is cold it's fine , when the car gets up to temperature an I'm crawling along in the traffic or pulling off from a junction ,if I just lightly accelerate the car rumbles then if I put my foot down abit more it goes away , it is only at low speed pulling off , also get it now an then if I'm on the motor way dropping down to 50mph an sticking at that speed , there's a slight rumble at lower revs, if anyone has got any suggestions then fire away be much appreciated

When the torque converter lock-up clutch friction plate is worn you get a characteristic vibration (a bit like driving over a cattle grid) when it goes from ‘off’ to ‘continuous slip’ mode (usually at around 30mph at light throttle up a slight incline) and sometimes when it goes from ‘continuous slip’ mode to ‘fully locked’ at around 56mph.



When you say you get the rumble when pulling away from rest, do you mean below 25mph, because the LUC will not be engaged at that point?



Does the rumble disappear if you drive the vehicle in manual mode? The LUC is inhibited in manual mode in the lower gears.

I'd say it's at lower speeds , but like I said I've had it at slightly higher speeds to 50mph maybe a touch lower like 45mph , it definitely feels like cattle grid sort of thing , but mainly happens when I'm just pottering to work , mainly at speeds no more than 35-40mph , stop start ect , but generally pulling off with little eclaration its got a judder and rubble to it , i have to put my foot down more to stop this from happening , it's strange rely , I've spoken to the mechanic I normally take my car to he said I can pop down in the morning to get it plugged in an see what it is before I waste 600+ on something that mite not even be the course of all this , I could try and record it on the way home from work see if I can catch it


Forgot to mention if I knock it across into sport mode it goes , this is what the last owner told me to do if it bothers me that much , he said summit in the torque convertor gets locked out when sports mode is engaged , don't no much about the mechanics more the body side of things

Little update , drove home from work (8-9) miles , varied from 30 to 50mph it didn't seem to do it as much as it normally does , It mite be because I was trying to make it ain't sure , but it happened once, at about 25-30mph dropped down revs an went to accelerate and got the "rumble" it's confusing tbh, I should no more tomorrow morning when I get it on the diagnostics, I'll take a picture of the fault codes what come up

Little update on this , took it to the mechanic this morning got it on the diagnostics and the only fault code it pulled up was a rear o2 sensor , he said it's behind the cat converter , so he's cleared the fault see how it goes , there nothing else at all coming up on the system as faults, could this do with the symptoms I'm getting ? Because it does give me hesitation when pulling away and slow pick up , so just wondering if this could be the problem if anyone has any input that will be great thanks
