Top Boxes & Roller Cabs

Probably a wild range of opinions available, but:

Whilst in Halfords earlier buying an air filter for the Pug, I saw they had their Industrial range of top boxes / roller cabs on offer - basically 50% off.

Now I have what is probably a common standard tool container system - buckets - and quite fancy somewhere I can put all said tools into an organised system. Whilst this will remove the 'Hunt the 3/8th drive' game that I play, it may actually be a benefit.

So I got home and looked on ebay and I'm now lost. Yes, we know Snap On stuff is good, but I'm not in the market for something costing £4,000.00. There are a selection of un-named others, ranging from £99 upwards.
Some are wide, some are not so wide, some come with a free spanner.

I don't want to waste my hard earned dosh, so:
A. Is the Halfords stuff OK?
or
B: What is OK for the same sort of cash?

The deal at Halfords is:
Top Box £129, Mid Box £100 and Roller cab £174 = £403 all-in. If you want the side cabinets, they are £100 (not on offer)

What I don't want to do is get something that's going to fall apart next Friday or something that will fill up and resort in having to buy more storage...

Halfords' Pro range is fine just steer clear of Machine Mart cos they done a Landrover with the sheet metal on the Clarke cabs, the modern ones are about half the thickness of the one I bought >10yrs ago u can bend them with ur fingers.

I've got too full halford pro set ups and there great mate. Roller draws etc

OK, so it's a reasonable quality which is good.
I have some Snap On stuff as well as some Halfords Pro and both are good. I can see if your earning a crust with them, you'd choose the best you can get - I do a similar thing with chisels and power tools..

I got this from Costco a few weeks back. Beats Halfrauds quality hands down. I paid £455 but think it's up to about £470 now. No doubt due to value of the pound

It's about 6ft tall

Bugger....forgot where you live. They are a wholesales US company. About £30/yr for a membership and do online with free delivery. Stuff they sell is top quality with zero problems on returns. They only have so many stores on mainland

Costco are an American company doing the biz over here, basically there a bigger version of Makro, with big buying power.
You can get some great bargains there, the tool box is the same as sealy quality at a better price. Just don't like Black.

I looked online and delivery would be a problem...
However I do have a site in Fareham....!
It's up to £500 now

Imagine all the extra tools I'd need to buy to fill it.....

It's cheaper in store. They add on % to cover delivery, so it's not really free. Still a bargain at that price. You wouldn't be disappointed.

Just seen there is one near where I'm working so will have to pop out and have a look...
I'm in the market for a 1/2 inch cordless impact gun and as I use Dewalt stuff already, the bare One that cranks 950Nm is the one I'm thinking about. Any views?

Mine is air so can't comment on cordless. From what I've heard on these Milwaukee takes a bit of beating....if you can afford it.

I'd seen that, but my view is I can get a bare unit for £150 as I already have batteries / chargers etc. The whole kit is about £350 but all my batteries are 5amp hour

Depends how much use your going to give it mate, horses for courses.
I've got a Ryobi and it's spot on, had a Clarke one was a load of ****e.
Milwaukee is top end gear, but no point if your only going to whip the wheels of now and again.

Just done a quick comparison and the Milwaukee and Dewalt come out money wise pretty much the same for the kit, but as I don't need a charger or batteries....

I like your way of thinking. I'm in the market for a drill and impact driver cordless set. Never thought of getting a good single one and adding to it with bare units. Cheers.

Go for the Dewalt. I've had them for years and can't fault the stuff. Sounds strange, but look for ITS Tools Isle of Wight and speak to them about the rework stuff.. it's still got a gaurentee and is discounted.
I started with one drill / driver and now have a full kit - spend the money on the batteries and go for 5ah only - although the new 6ah 18/54v stuff is good - just ordered one battery at £125...
Then you can simply buy 'bare' units - no battery, no case and it costs a lot less.
The XRP range is the best to go for.

Honestly mate. I couldn't believe the quality for the money. Its a no brainer. My brother in law recently paid £10k for a Snap On box then added another £3k worth of end cupboards to it
