That's a good idea as if you do have an issue you can always replace bits with better stuff but I doubt you will need to

A decent set of flank drive sockets will save you a **** load of ball ache.

Instead of gripping the corners of a nut like normal sockets they grab the flats, so even a rounded off bolt can be undone with one.

Saved my arse in industry more times than i'd like to remember.

Good point
Snap ons Patent on Flank drive expired many years ago so lots of people now make the sockets so the shouldn't round off fasteners.
I think hex sockets are good too

Breaker bar and impact wrench are good to own too.

This is what a flank drive socket looks like, you can tell the difference from a normal one by the sides being curved instead of straight. Most impact sockets are flank drive aswel, so save money on buying 2sets, just get a 1/2in drive set and be done with it.

I've got that trade point card myself. Use it for work supplies in emergencies. Odd decent deal but most of time I can still find stuff I need elsewhere significantly cheaper.

Certainly wouldn't cry myself to sleep if I didnt have it.

Totally agree, B&Q arnt the cheapest on most items but like you say they have some good offers at times.
I mainly use mine for kitchens- some customers started picking kitchens from B&Q (prefer Howdens myself) so when they go pick thier kitchen and get it designed they get a price for it, I then go in order kitchen get roughly 20% off. Give the customer a 10% discount- their happy and I make a few quid on top of the job. Can add up when they go for a cook and Lewis kitchen costing around £8000!

that on a special deal?

tradepoint only seems to do 3-10% off

No mate, It's not a set %. Some items I only get 5% off (say on handles) but on others I can get upto about 40% (say taps). But over all the lads in there give me about 20% off the whole kitchen. On one kitchen I did they gave me the extractor hood free!

I have halfords, and other makes socket sets of all shapes and sizes at home, but I've recently bought a 35 quid set off ebay, which to my surprise seem okay. I bought them just to keep in the 110, as I won't be heartbroken if they get nicked, and I figured a cheap set of sockets, spanners, and odds and ends and I should be able to get myself out of most problems.

I've not used them in anger yet, but I think they'll be okay to be honest. Wouldn't like to rely in them, but to my surprise they are hex sockets which gives me some hope they'll not round every nut off, and I'm sure they won't get much use so should be ideal for out and about. For the money atleast, I'm quite impressed.

apart from a a big bucket full of random name (good and unknown) sockets and a couple of cheaper toolkits.

i've got Silverline 633802 Impact Socket Set 35-Piece: Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools as cheap general beatup sockets for breaker bar, gun and hammering on rusty bolts. cheap enough to not care about damage.

had them a couple of years now and they aren't all mashed up and have coped with everything so far. metric and imperial mixed in as well.
