bearing in mind I go to a motorsport college... Yes I disconnected the battery ffs

But seriously how the **** do i get the starter motor off lol.

Ar, I still have Dento the donor Disco..... minus footwells. As we are due to gain extra evening day light at the end of the month I will start stripping it down for all the spares soon.

Heffs, just 'cos the battery shows 12+ volts doesn't mean it can supply the amps needed to turn over an enjun, 'specially a 19J.

If it happens only when it's colder it ain't gonna be a corroded connection (though there is no harm in cleanint them up) Get the battery down to a battery and tyre place and get it load/drop charge tested.

remove the wires to it - a small one pushes on - that the solenoid actuator.
a fookin big one comes direct from battery - or shud do - that is held on place wiv a nut - about 12/13mm.
earth wire - yu know about - that shud be held in place by one of the mounting bolts - there should be another one (or is it 2 on the 19J?). yu will need the appropriate sockets - a long extension bar and a short extension bar, pianists fingers and three arms.

good luck

The starter motor is on the RHS of the engine at the back by the bulkhead as you look into the bay. It's underneath the turbo heat sheild and hidden by the internal heater box. Good luck it's a bloody nightmare to get to......
Bet it's the battery.

I think his prob is without the landy running - its a long walk lugging the battery :D

yeah I found the motor I just can't get access/fooking see round the fecker. How do I take me battery to get checked if I aint got a car LOL

me dad said that cos its cold it cud be bad connections cntracting and not giving enough of a connection. he's gone off on one cos i keep talking about the battery and he wants me to clean the ****ing starter connections.

plus, the earth strap for the starter isnt one of the mounting bolts, i swear I'm lookin at a different injun to everyone else LOL

I took the battery off my nissan and that wouldn't start it eever.

Well that should tell ya sumthin...........
You can go n throw money at a new battery but not a lot of point if it ain't gonna fix ur problem?
Listen to ur Dad - we olduns might look daft but there's wisdom in those years............

Pat - as i think i have "booked" most of the big items - just shout and i will come up to strip them orf with ya.

No worries. As soon as I get the little ladies 90 up and running then it will be get rid of Disco time. Anyone want a Disco 1 body shell? Hardly used with only 1 or 2 scratches? Footwells need a little attention :D

mk. my problem is I've never looked at a starter system before, and I don't know what the solenoid looks like. I've found the positive connection on top of the thingy behind the turdo pipe, and its gonna be a reet **** to get it off.

It's a right pain to get to nellie! It's a lot easier with two of ye's doin' it (one above and one below... oooooeeerrrr!!)
Found some piccies from when ah did mine a whiles back. Need to take the exhaust down pipe off and move it to one side.

Good luck ;):D

ahh buster your a legend! thankyou :) What do you think? Battery or this one last positive connection that I've not cleaned? I'm begginning to think I should just get someone to tow me off the drive later and bump it/tow it to college!!

by the way buster, how come your injun bay looks like that and mine is covered in a thick slurry of black oil! my overalls were marginally cleanish when I started! Now they're fooked. I've got serious oil leakage all over the fookin place lmao

Will leave u in Busters capable hands - I never done one of those. The solenoid is the thingy on the top of the starter. It should click when u give it 12v n connect the main feed to the starter and I think kick in the bendix?? - am I right anyone??.
When u got it orf if u want any more advice............

cheers mystery! Can you tell it's been confusing me? lol. Those pics have cleared it up doe now, I know what it is and what it looks like now

I tried the battery from my nissan buster, that was kerzackly the same, but that only howed 12.12v on my multimeter, ratty said it needs to be 12.5v to turn it over properly?
