Defenders are for going round the farm, and the disco is for going off the farm !!!.

Personally I wouldnt want to drive for too long in a Defender. ( status or no status ! ).

Landrover have a range of vehicles to suit different needs.

Whilst you may do a 100 miles a day in your Defender, Landrover have another vehicle in thier range that would be more suitable, the Discovery. ( driving position, gearing, equipment ).

A Jag sounds lovely, but would not be able to negotiate the terrain where I live.

About the status thing. I,m sure that Landrover only sold large amounts of Defenders because it has the Green oval badge on the front. They are " agricultural " to say the least. To be honest, the Disco,s not that much better. ( I would not have paid the fat end of £ 30 k for a new one ).

I think you are being a bit naughty. The reason land rover sold so many defenders is its a damn good all round vehicle. The majority of which still are on the roads now. The disco has its good points, the 200tdi and its transfer box...but these are often put into a defender..i can't think of too many things that are swapped the other way, by that I mean a disco is often scrapped and parts used elsewhere...a defender is rarely scrapped due to its durability and ease of use.

Agricultural?? Hmm...
 
The Defender is/was an extremely simple vehicle that was exported to harsh environments all over the world, in huge numbers.

For years in this country, it was only really used for its intended purpose, ie offroad and the crossover onto tarmac.

To be honest, if it was,nt for the " shorter legs " on the Defender for towing, I,d replace it with another TD5 Disco.

The whole 4x4 thing cracks me up anyway. If people want to go offroad a lot, get a 4x4, if your doing 100,s of miles a week on road, get a car !. Its this missuse of the 4x4 thats put the spotlight on us all.

so where does the subaru imprezza fit in then? offroad or on?

If it wasn't for the peeple 'missusing' 4x4's there wouldn't be enough demand for them in the first place.:doh:

People have the right to choose what car they drive. They also have the right to choose to stay on tarmac or take it offroad.
 
Erm...if i got a car i would not be able to get to work for 3 months of the year....i live well out in the country and occasionally even with the landy i get snowed or frozen in ( -25 and 3 foot of snow in a day).

Thats just bolox. I use my landy off road, on road..and sometimes i'm just guessing...but its mine and i damn well use it as it pleases me...who are you to say i'm mis-using it and putting a spotlight on ''us''....who the fk are ''us'' ..from what you have written you will be using your ''4x4'' mainly on road and buying one for its comfort...pot, kettle, fkn black!!!

I wouldnt want to put pigs in the back of an Imprezza and wash the inside down after they,ve sh1t everywhere.

The 4x4 Imprezza only ended up on the roads as a rusult of Subaru,s WRC campian. I doubt very much that it has ever been used by a rugular punter on/off road the way that McRae used it !.

For starters please dont think I,m having a go at you, or anyone else who drives a Landover. From what you,ve said it would seem that a Landrover is exactly what you need.

I use my Landrovers every day. I live miles offroad. I find the Disco is used more because it has more room, is more comfortable to drive, has a/c and is better on fuel.

The reason I comented on this thread is because I keep hearing how the Defender is the " only real Landrover " and the king off road and that all Disco drivers would rather be driving a Defender.

The OP original question about swapping from a 110 to a Disco seems to have been laughed at as if it was the most ridiculous suggestion ever.

In my opinion, being in farming, I see the Disco as a step up from the Defender !.
( but then I see the Defender as a step up from the tractor !! ).
