I"ve been thinking about changing my 2003 Freelander Serengeti Automatic for a couple of years but whilst Lockdown was around I held on. Now I"m looking for another decent Freelander Auto but it seems to me that good Mark 1 Freelanders are holding their prices? So my question is: Is it worth changing my reliable BMW engined one for a Mark 2. What benifits does the Mark 2 have except age? because I like the look of the Facelift Mark 1 more than the Mark 2.
One other question: I pay something like £290 Road Tax but I"ve seen some Freelanders and the Road Tax is over £600. Why?

If your freelander is working and looking good, I would hang on to it. No idea why the road tax should be £600 for a freelander, even a 2.5l model.

You mean the Freelander 2?
If so then it's a completely different vehicle, miles ahead in terms of performance, economy, equipment, safety, handling and everything else.
It's generally reliable too, statistically more reliable than the FL1. However when it goes wrong, it can be more costly to repair, although not by much.
Would I go back to a FL1 after a couple of years of FL2 ownership, not if I could help it. It's just such a nice vehicle to live with.

Your replies are interesting and leave me with a problem. A couple of days ago I went for a test drive in a BMW X3 2.0 D Auto and I liked it ! but not enough. I"ve had quite a few Freelanders and I have always liked them but I would like a newer one, but which???

There's a question. BMW X3 vs Freelander 2, no contest, Freelander 2 all the way. It's cheaper to maintain, more reliable, has a higher sitting position, has a better forum following, oh and was built in the UK, not the Czech Republic.
