I knew that I would have to cut at least one of the arms back further than the spring seats so I couldn't mount my jig on to them; so yeah, it does look a tad robust!

After cutting off the cross member, the LH chassis arm looks to be in good nick, the RH one is the crap one, I think I'll have to cut back to the shock mount. Clive has said to make sure I stagger the cuts in the chassis arm/s so that my welds aren't all at the same point. I'll look to overlap the chassis plates to the existing good chassis by a good amount, at least on the first plate where I can weld the inner and outer. Obviously won't be able to weld the inner face on the second plate if you understand what I mean.

Clive has got some decent photos on his FB page, well worth a look if you do FB. I don't but my dog is on there - it's a long story...

I know what you mean. the reason i ask is because the original is double skinned, it can trap moisture and rot. This could also happen if you give too much lap.

So after waiting for a couple of months for the correct extension chassis rails to be sent along with the tank brackets to rescue the wrong x member i was sent, its obvious that they aren't coming so i made some templates and cut my own. Turned out to be an expensive rear cross member as i had to make half of it myself.
Anyway got it welded up, to a fashion. Just got to make up some tank brackets and weld on the tub brackets then i can start rubbing the chassis down and giving it a couple of coats of red oxide.

Have you paid for it? Hope not. Lost all interest in it to be honest. Fell of ladder at work just after xmas and was off for 5 weeks without pay. No money to do anything but now getting back on our feet. Got to buy some dinitrol now for the chassis and bulkhead cavities then paint the outside, then i can start putting it back together.

Yep. Was £75 or something like that. Not happy but what can you do. Just have to forget about it really.
And I feel for you mate. Sounds just like my situation last year

Thanks to my employer and my even better zero hours contract, i got the day off. Thought id use it wisely and do a bit on the motor.

Decided to take off the axle so i could clean it up and also to get better access to the chassis to rub it down and paint it. Axle came off nice enough so started hitting the chassis with a chipping hammer to remove the flakey rust. there was a fair bit on the chassis behind the spring hanger but once removed i was pleased to see a good thickness of steel with no holes. All going well until i reached the section of chassis just behind the rear trailing arm brackets.

Gutted to say the least. More of my favourite job to do. Looks like the dinitrol is going to have to wait. Anyway, ****ed off with that so decided to go salmon fishing here

No luck here either.
No gas left for the mig so will break out the flux core.

The fabricated arse end looks spot on Matey. As for the rust that's why i went the new chassis route as i was finding a new hole every other week or so, i think i had replaced most of the chassis with patches

Cheers. Im happy enough with the back end. Ill have to patch it as no funds for new chassis. Maybe one day. Got this far forward so will just carry on now. It just goes to show how bad a seemingly good chassis can be. I spent ages checking over the motor before i bought it but obviously didnt hit it hard enough over the full lenght of the rails

]Cant believe its been so long since i posted anything about my "do up". Everything seems to be taking forever, stripping done, sandblasting, painting then reassembling. Anyway, for those who are interested. Finely got all the bits cleaned and painted and now that its all dry, took today to get the axle back on. Going to have to take a chance on the tank due to lack of funds so cleaned it up and red oxided it ready for a coat of shultz. Once ive changed the oil seal in the diff, ill start refitting the box's and that will take me up as far as the baulkhead. Dont hold your breath for the next update.

Thanks. The doors arent in the best of shap and every panel has some sort of dent or scrape. would love to change the colour but cant make up my mind which colour to go for.

Dents and scrapes are just character!
If the mounting points to the tub are solid then that's a big positive. Doors are doors Can always be tackled later after the main rebuild. Creating a strong base vehicle is the main priority. Was your original colour blue? I would be tempted to stay original.

Im in the same mind as you. once its together i can do the bodywork at any time, when the weathers better. As far as colour, yes, blue with white roof. The colour is a very washed out blue and i wanted something stronger, but if i change the colour i would want to do engine bay aswell so no original colour remains. Perhaps spraying the same colour will turn out stronger because im sure the old colour has faded. Also means i can put it back together without fear of stratching panels and then flash it over as my leisure.
