Yeah, that's what would bother me Mick. I'd want the same colour inside and out and it's a far more expensive process to get that. I think you are right, the new paint of the same colour will look stronger and shiny!

Its been a while since ive spent more than a few hours on the rebuild due to lack of funds and the wife doing evening work so i have to baby sit or as she calls it, parenting. Anyway, works shut down for a week, ive already sprayed litres of dinitrol into the chassis so now have spent a couple of days cleaning up the front axle.

Got it rubbed down and painted and was about to tackle the radius arms when i noticed a buggered bush so changed the for orange flo flex.

Wire brushed them both, fitted new bushes and bolted to axle. Got axle into position and bolted radius arms to chassis. Fitted new shocks, turrets and cleaned up springs and jacked up axle into position.

Fitted the steering box and connected the drag link only to discover the ball joint has split.
Also noticed the shocks and springs are at a dodgy angle.

Hoping it will straighten up with the weight of the front on it, unless some one sees something wrong?? Anyway, next job is to change the rear crank oil seal and then i can start putting it back together.So this is where i am at the moment.

Yes, the springs and shocks on the front usually look like they're at a weird angle. The axle pivots on the radius arm bushes as it goes up and down so in many positions the top mount for the spring and shock are not directly vertically above the corresponding mount on the axle. It worried me a bit when I put mine together, but the flex of the spring and the rubber bushes on the shock seem to be capable of accommodating this.

Cheers Brown, The only way i thought to change the angle would be to tamper with the radius arm to chassis bushes, but as everything is non adjustable, ie, just bolts back together, i thought id ask first. I didnt really notice it when i was stripping it down.

Yes, they don't give you anything to adjust, so it must be supposed to be like that. Like yours, mine looks like the lower spring seats on the axle are further forward than the upper ones on the chassis.

Todays job was to change the rear crankshaft oil seal so i could start getting it back together.

used a drilled out bar to stop the engine turning over while i loosened the flywheel bolts.At least it hadn't seized after all this time.

Cleaned out all the crud ready for the new seal.

Cleaned all the rust off the flywheel

Fitted a complete new clutch ready and the next step is to fit the gearbox.

So now the clutch was in i wanted to move forward and fit the gear and trans boxs. Rigged up my patented gearbox hoist and after a lot of effing and blinding and moving jacks up and dow while pushing the landy back and forth, i got it in.

Today was spent finishing bolting up the gearbox and fitting the clutch slave cylinder. Tried to fit the slave cylinder but it wouldnt go in enough. I thought id pull it out to re-align it then this little bugger came out with it.

I tried unsuccessfully to refit it so the only option was to drop the box's again.
This time i moved the landy under my aldi electric hoist and in 20mins, had the box out, rod refitted and box back in so not as stressful as i thought it was going to be.

Fitted the clutch slave cylinder again after freeing up the piston and moved on to props.

I'm only guessing here, but was the air blue when the push rod came out?
I love in ingenuity of the gear box support system in the first picture. However, it begs the question why you didn't use the Aldi hoist in the first place?

A Few words were said although i had to reign it in a bit as mini me was outside the shed. A few reasons why i didnt use the aldi hoist, it was bolted to a timber beam to the right of centre so it meant maneuvering the landy on my own. To be honest, moving the hoist would have been a pain in the arse so as the missus was in the shed painting chairs today, she helped me move the chassis.

Couple of before photos of probably the slowest rebuild thread going at the moment.

Started on the tub while waiting for Paddocks to deliver some bits( over a week now).
Will get these supports sand blasted and painted then sort out the corrosion on the strengthening b

It's being as happy as you can be with the finished product that's important, Mick. Not how long it takes, so take your time.
Might be worth waiting until you can get some galv floor supports. £35 each from YRM + VAT & delivery of course.
They cop for a load of cr@p under there, so might be worth thinking about.
Oh, and those pics are very small resolution so tricky to see for someone cracking on a bit

Not only is the build going slow, so is my internet speed. Couldnt stay up any longer for photobucket to fire up so had to use the thumnail sized ones instead. Will try and edit them now.

I can see them now!
They're in better condition than mine, Mick. The steel cross-members on mine had dissolved the top hats and created holes in the floor skin. The cross-members were in pretty poor condition too. Mines a 90 so had fewer to replace.
