I did'n know what your job was Ratty - big respect man, you are a hero, you probobly take more risks every day than I have ever done in my life. I bet you enjoy your job Ratty, and I bet the danger gives you a bit of a buzz. The difference between you and most of the rest of us, Ratty is that you can get your adrenaline fix in work.

Yes I do enjoy my job. I am not a bighead all action hero that goes about shouting about it contrary to what you may think. Nobody on here knew what my job is until this all started. I have been out laning many times with people from here and I bet none of em coulda even guessed what I did.
No I don't get my adrenalin fix by doing my job. I get it by going laning in a group.

That's a fair point redhand, but on the other hand I think that many of the anties find the sight of a convoy of vehicles bristling with winches, high lift jacks, shovels etc. quite offensive. There are not many lanes left around my neck of the woods with deep mud and I would not try those on my own anayway. Most of the remaining tracks in Wales have a hard surface even if it is submerged under 3 feet of water.

I lived in Wales for 10 years I know what the tracks are like. And you don't need deep mud or even deep water to get stuck. Wet grass and steep slopes, will happily keep you stuck for hours or even days if you don't have anyone else to winch you or Shove you across the offending area. And if you follow the greenlane code of conduct then the largest convoy you should see is 4 or at a pinch 5 vehicles at a time. They don't have to bristle with rescue gear. I carry an hilift and a tirfor in my vehicle. I've never had a winch fitted to any landrover that I've owned.

It seems you taken the ****ty end of the stick in this thread. No one is suggesting you go out and spend hundreds of pounds on whinches and recovery gear, or that you should only go out in huge groups, 2 or 3 vehicles with a suitable rope or strap and a few shackles are all you need. Your sweeping generalisations and snide comments are becoming rather boring. The people on here have tried to point out that what ever your view on personal safety. Driving greenlanes alone is asking for trouble. You seem to have taken this as a personal slur on your ability to extricate yourself from said trouble. You keep referring to your many solo exploits on foot or cycle. which is fine and I'm sure you are very capable of looking after your self should the **** hit the fan. But you can't pick a 4x4 up and throw it over your shoulder if it breaks down or if you get stuck. You will have no choice but to leave the vehicle where it is. And hope (In Wales it can be a big hope) that you can find a farmer or similar to extract your vehicle on your behalf. I have walked and driven for a full day in wales and not seen any one outside of the towns and villages that I have walked/driven through. Of course there is also the possibility that while you are off looking for help, that someone else may happen along and rescue your vehicle and decide that it will make a very nice vehicle for themselves. If you choose to ignore this rather simple advice, and it appears you will. Then you will at some point get stuck. Hopefully no harm will befall you and you will grow up and realise that what you have read here makes sense after all.

...and other stupid things, like going laning on your own, getting stuck and having to leave you vehicle blocking a public ROW while you walk out to get the help you should have taken with you in the first place. You know... lack of consideration for others, that's the problem.

Fook that have you seen how long this thread stretches for. I int got time to read all of it. :eek:.

Take a bit of friendly advice and don't go greenlaning on your own. It's not worth the hassle.

I don't know if you read the post I linked to but he was stuck for nearly 10 hours from start to finish and had to walk a fair old distance just to get a phone signal. It's not the best or most enjoyable way to spend a day especially if the weathers ****e.
 
Nice of you to join in 90Boy! So you're going to give up solo greenlaning then are you?

Here is a picture from the greenlaning trip that 90Boy led last weekend where they went playing in one of Welsh Water's resovours in Mid Wales.
