I int busted it!!!!! Well, not proper like. The wires got stuck in the tubey bit. Duff welder I say. Gonna tek it back un get a re-fund.

The wire has got stuck because 1/wire speed too slow 2/voltage setting too high resulting in burn back 3/incorrect angle of welding nozzle to job 4/ no anti spatter spray used on tip. To release wire 1/ remove outer shroud revealing tip 2/ unscrew tip along with wire that is stuck 3/ on wire feed area within welder slacken off the wire adjuster to allow a little movement of the wire between the rollers 4/pull out a bit of wire with the tip attached (where it is stuck) and cut off an inch or so 5/ work the wire with a pair of pliers to release from tip 6/rebuild in reverse.

apart from that - she dun good - huh?

Anybody that takes the plunge to try welding for the first time without having anybody stood over advising is definately one of this worlds triers and need applauding, good on yer HB for trying

Thank you Stig. The wire got crossed over on the reel, thats what stopped it. Before then it was coming out fine. I cut it off at the wire feeder bit, pulled the rest thru the hose bit, un crossed the wire on the reel so it cud run free then tried to get the new bit thru the hose and out the nozzle. It kept getting stuck near the end of the hose. I took the shield and the nozzle off the end but still could'nt see the end of the wire. I had managed to feed it almost all the way thru. It is getting jammed somewhere inside the end of the hose bit. Once I manage to get it thru, it shud work fine again. Oooo!! I burnt a hole in my mobile phone too!

What a girly!
She can come and play with my gas welder any time.
And then she can have a play with my stick welder ...

By the way, does anyone want a English Electric stick welder - a really big old fashioned one ... 150 amps continuous rating, single phase or two phase ...?

It's about the size of a decent two-drawer filing cabinet and weighs a whole lot, and is filled with transformer oil to cool it.

It has little wheels ... it can work with quarter inch welding rods all day!

This is a VERY VERY SERIOUS stick welder, and I need hardly any money for it.

In the handle there is a coil spring and that is what is causing the wire to get stuck on feeding through, if you dismantle the handle you can then feed the wire through ok (patience required). If the wire has blocked up by the rollers it means that the wire had become stuck at the tip and the rollers where adjusted to tight, the way to set the roller tension is once the wire is fed through again set the wire speed on halfway on the dial then operate the trigger and try and stop the wire with your fingers you should have the tension set so that the rollers will spin and not send any wire out. make sure you use anti spatter spray liberally sprayed over the end on the tip and down the shroud or if no spray use grease.

Wot a top girl!
Go for it, just reading your exploits makes me smile.
As Stig says its not the sort of thing you do with out a bit of help.
As for you feeding wire you must be careful to cut the wire off clean without any burs, or it will damage your PTFE liner and you need to keep your wire from rusting or it will not feed cleanly.

aye she knows all that stuff cos when i went to use mine after some time wiff it doing nowt me wire wur rusty and me liner wur fooked. so she missed her welding lesson in france

Aye. Slob explained to me about cuttin the wire off neat the other day. Its all much easier now I know you weld over the top of what yer doin rather than away from it. So iss goin okish.

I bin weldin lines to get a feel for it and I stealed bits to practice on from the metal fabricators skip. Was driving down the road wiff it in the bucket of me tractor yesterday, but the jaws were'nt shut properly an it all fell out in the road. Has to stop an pick it all up.

Ears me bit I did.. I'm sure I posted it somewhere on here yesterday.. but was a bit ****ed so **** remember..
