Been to a job interview thats going to require me to drive to and from Nottingham every week from London so around 1100miles a month+ what ever i do as private mileage. My current D1 isn't up to it, so fingers crossed i get it the job! but what would you lot recommend ? Cost wise a drive ability wise? i know the TD5 can have a nice bit of power added to it by EGR blanking, new intercooler and a light tune. but will this make it better or worse on fuel etc? i would be looking for a top end spec one, must have leather heated seats etc, not worried about if its facelift or not :) all opinions appreciated

My TD5 in does about 27mpg on mixed driving, not tested the return on motorway miles though. That's with EGR removed but no other engine mods, pre-cat. I know others have seen up to 30 maybe slightly more after an economy focused remap.

So is that about 600miles on a full tank? i do like the sound of a TD5 , i should know if i have the job by end of the month. then can try and work a plan out, regarding the 3amigos if your disco was to get it is it likely to be costly or not? i know various things can cause it but never really looked into it will do some searching on here now, i will keep my eyes peeled on ebay auto-trader and the for sale section on here :)

It's not only the fuel costs to considder but also the servicing and replacement of parts.
I use to do around a 1100 miles a month with my old RRC so that was in a main dealer service dept ever six months for service and then a full service plus some new parts.

I didn't have the time in those 'good old days' to find some where else for servicing, the vehicle was a working company vehicle therefore needed everyday but the high milage did take its toll in the 10 years I had it.

Just been on autotrader, this dont look dight to me! As its a 54 plate disco, but has early disco 1 headlights? :s ImageUploadedByTapatalk1360251100.620089.jpg

Was after servicing costs, i can do basic servicing myself but anything major would want to be getting it done at a garage, can do oil ,filters, wheel bearings etc

More like 500 for me, some people were getting close to 600 though.

My fuelly stats from when I was using was:

Miles tracked: 1,125

Best MPG: 27.5

Cost per mile: £0.245

I must say I was driving quite gently at the time though, but skint after buying it. :D

Three amigos often means new hubs from what I've seen, my knowledge is still limited though as only had mine less than 6 months. I would say it's probably pain in the arse expensive rather than sell the car expensive. :D

Only problem is insurance is a problem for me! As im only 19 dont think can afford insurance on 2x cars :( but will investigate the possibility of a 2nd car, and its not a 300tdi , its a v8 MATE ;)
