hi everyone, any answers on this problem would be a great help.
i have just been towed back from the lake district, as my 2000 disco td5 has just lost its umph, and starts kangerooing at 2500 rpm in any gear. it won't go above 4000 rpm free reving, and can't go much above 30mph. there are no split pipes. i have changed the wastegate modulator, inlet sensor. also tried unpluging maf sensor. replaced the egr valve with a blank off kit, checked the injector wiring, and there is no oil on the ecu wiring.no joy in finding the problem. i don't have any other forms of testing what is wrong. please help, anyone. i am tearing my hair out.

the wastegate rod moves, but how free should it move?, i can move it with a screwdriver levering it, but not by hand.

Take the heatshield off, then remove the wastegate capsule completely. The arm on turbo should literally slop back and forth between your fingertips.WD40 and 5-10 mins of tapping gently with a small hammer on the end of the shaft and around where the shaft enters the housing - all the time working the arm back and forth. If it sticks even slightly its no good. The last one I did was siezed solid, even after 5 mins of tapping and WD it would still stick now and then.By 10 mins it was totally sloppy, and the cars performance was restored.(This was after the garage it came from had replaced the egr valve, map sensor etc - with no improvement...)
If you can view boost pressure as live data it must not go over 230Kpa or the ecu sees it as overboost and will cut fuelling, the boost dies off and fuelling is brought back up till it overboosts again......

tried the wastegate flap, and it was completely free already. now the car doesn't start at all. tested the fuel pump next, not pumpig as the new fuel filter has no fuel in it, it was dry. so me thiks a new pump is on it way to me, hopefully this will solve the whole problem out.

First off check to make sure you didn't accidentally whack the inertia switch when you were mucking around with the wastegate.

Can you hear the in tank fuel pump priming when you turn the ignition on?

checked switch. the fuel pump doesnt make a sound when i turn the key, i have even tried unplugging it then potting a 12v supply to it to see if it works, but nothing.

check the fuel pump relay too just in case...may save you £££'s

If the fuel pump still doesn't run after applying a live feed then you are looking at needing to replace it.

Just to add. I've been out to V8's that have had the fuel pumps pack up. I've then tried applying a live feed to the actual motor rather than the multi-plug and they've worked. The fault was in the 6" bit of wiring that connects to the pump. Might be worth a check.
