Was getting getting bad blow-by on my 110 after a injector failed and turned out I had bad detonation and a broken ring in Cylinder 5. Possibly made worse by extra chance of running lean on a bad cylinder due to having a VNT, bigger interooler etc.
Rebuilt the whole engine and with oversize pistons and all should be good again.
Due to waiting for the pistons as were on back order and then having a bike accident in the summer, I didn't really get round to putting it back together until I was recovered in the last month or so.

So...

Engine in and all back together now and read to start but I've nothing at all from the starter. Turn the key and nothing. Lights or anything don't even die and other problem which might mean a bad earth or dead short somewhere would be the Temp gauge is reading opposite.

Everything else works fine. Fuel pump primes, all the lights work, dash lights working, can check the fuel pump, glow plugs, MIL lamp, Injectors etc are all functioning through the nanocom so I'm kinda stumped

Anybody any ideas? :)

Did you check the wiring step by step.

Plus that you are getting 12V where you should?

Have you tried using a jump lead to act as an earth if needed.

Cheers

yep, used a jump lead straight from the battery to the starter and still no difference.

Checked the earth under the seat for the ECU and boost box too and had a tiny bit of rust on it from dampness so cleaned it off and still no difference there either, My Multi meter is in my toolbox at work so won't have that until tomorrow or else I'll borrow my dads one this evening and check for power anywhere I should be getting it but as the Nanocom is able to power up everything I'm just abit confused what could be causing it given the only things that were disconnected to remove the engine where the three wires and connector to the starter, altenator plug and live feed, crank sensor, temp sensor, map sensor, MAF and inlet temp sensors, oil sensor and the injector harness.

Didn't touch any of the rest of the loom or the earths but granted it's been sitting up a while now due to not being able to work on it

Without knowing if your starter is goosed, or being able to check if voltage is getting where it should it is difficult to say.

Can you not make a 12V bulb voltage checker if you have no multimeter?

Cheers

Nope, nothing at all. slight faint click from the ignition barrel I think but lights don't dim or anything and nothing at all clicking the starter like you would with a dead solenoid

Tested for earths on the ECU and engine and all seems good as have continuity from battery. Don't seem to have power to the small wire on the starter. Must try and jump the starter tomorrow to get it cranking at least.

Anybody any ideas of what I should be testing for in the fuse box or anything along those lines in case I have a stuck relay or something

Have you got an immobiliser that you may have forgotten about if it has been a while? My 300 has so expect it may be an option on a TD5 if not standard fit?

My old Defender had alright but this one doesn't. Granted I'm using the old ones ECU in it as it's mapped for the turbo and bits and pieces but never was an issue before. Might try it's original ECU in it to see if it makes any difference though

Still thinking it could be a bad ECU earth really or maybe something wrong with the bank of relays or earth to them in the seat box given both the temp gauge problem as well as no start.
Going to run a new earth from the battery to the ECU and relays tomorrow just to make sure.

Turned out it ended up my starter was completely dead! lol
Swapped the one off my Dad's Disco and it cranked over no problem.
The temp gauge problem still persisted however but narrowed it down to the ECU after acting up in some way as it behaves perfectly with the other ECU plugged in.

When hooked upto the nanocom just to monitor things in case gauges were lying, it's holding temp around 87-89 degrees even when pushing hard up a long hill so looks like it's all happy :)
