TD4 no crank from the switch

So you have power going through the 2 Fusible Links - but no pin for the Starter Relay has power?

If that is the case, the wiring within the engine compartment fuse box itself must be faulty - I would double and triple check that none of the pins is getting power first before concluding that though.

Ok I have now checked again, There is on power on 87 or 30 when i turn the ignition switch to start, I get 11.63 volts , put the relay back in and it is clicking so the relay is working, but no power to relay terminals 87 and 30.

30 should have constant 12V regardless of ignition switch.
87 leads to starter
86 should have 12v in crank position
85 should have earth

A clicking relay may have burnt contacts. What about swapping it with a similar relay - fuel pump?

If I can di it, how about if I put a fused link direct from the positve on the battery to 30. and try to start it on the key?..

Then if it starts, it has to be a problem with the fuse box. Looking at the construction of the box from pictures . it is hard to see why i would not have power to 30 if I have power to the fused Link. but I am quite certain i do not have power. I will double check this morning before doing anything.

Surely if you can "put a fused link direct from the positive on the battery to 30" it must be easier to run another wire from FL7 to 30?

Having said that, it would probably be easier just to get another fuse box from a scrap yard if there's one local to you. They might even not bother taking the relays and fuses off so you'll have some spares :) They are priced from £15 on eBay.

If it was the switch, I would not get a live feed to the relay when I try to crank it. and it still should have a perminat 12 volt feed to to the relay ,, and I dont.

Yes - good 12V at pin 86 when cranking means all is well from ignition to immob to fusebox.

For a no-crank Td4 I'm surprised it's an open between FL7 and relay terminal 30, though. Odd. If it really is, there could be corrosion in the rest of the box from some mishap in its past.

Live feed to terminal 30 on the relay and it starts first time. So Fuse board it is.

Many many thanks for all the help, These forums where you can get help from people willing to spend time trying to sort these problems for you is invaluable.

I hope you all have a good Easter

11.63 volts sounds very low. You sure it doesn't just need a new battery?
If the starter is clicking when you turn the key but not turning over the engine then I'll put a fiver on it being a low battery.

As far as I can see, the starter won't even click and there is not even 11.63V at the main feed to the starter relay. In the case of a bad battery, I would expect some voltage at the relay feed, which then drops severely on crank.

An odd one. I am very interested in why the connection between FL7 and relay pin 30 has gone. Pics please, OP!

The battery was low, I had to put the booster on to get it to crank properly. But it starts fine with the link, juas a small lenth of wire from the fused link to the teriminal 30 and the push the relay back in. and all works fine. Battery now charged and everthing is fine.
