I will be taking it back to the garage I bought it from and let them take a butchers, although I am not holding out any hope, the mechanic there says that he used to work for a gearbox transmission company, but they do not specialise in Landrover, but seeing that i have only had the Freebie about a week I think they should take some responsibility for the problem, they sold it to me with a 3 month warranty, do not know if this will cover the cost of any repair though as it seems to have a lot of exclusions.

I will certainly be mentioning engine mounts to them though, incidently I drove another TD4 at the weekend and a year older than mine at that and it did not seem to have the same juddering charactistics.:)

Too right anore
I had a diff rebuilt under warranty and a few other bits and pieces :D

"Just got me first freelander

Went for a 2003 TD4 GS 5 door

It has done roughly 71000 miles and I have a couple of questions!"

Hi there , first check if the milage is correct , you can do this through the main dealer ,if it is not a 1 owner with full dealer service history you
may have been sold a pup Imo

I looked at a td4es 52 reg it had a hoast of faults and only 57k on the clock
it had been well clocked i suspect 150k

good luck

Hi
Firstly should the gearstick shake vigously in first and second gear upon acceleration? The acceleration is quite smooth but you can feel what I can best describe as juddering coming up the gear stick/clutch pedal:(

Secondly when you turn the steering wheel it makes a kind of a wierd squeeking noice, like a rubbing perhaps I don't know!

The vibration through the gearstick could also be a driveshaft problem. This can make vibrations come through all sorts of places in the car. You would also get it through the seats/cabin under hard acceleration - Find a motorway with a long steep hill. Get your speed down to about 55-60mph at the bottom of the hill and then give it some beans up the hill. The more throttle the better. Any vibrations then?

Otherwise do a search for vibrations and for VCU problems in the forums. Lots of tips how to diagnose. Otherwise, pop into your local LR main dealer and get them to diagnose. Most will diagnose/test drive/pop it on a ramp for free or, at the most, for half an hour's labour.

My TD4 steering wheel squeaks sometimes when turning. Sound def comes from wheel/top of column and not anywhere more expensive underneath. Think it's just plasticy bits rubbing together sometimes.

Cheers
