i got a 2002 td4 wwould i beable just to put the cone in the housing or would i have to buy the whole unit

just fiitted one to mine no promblem but i broke the little plastic tee connect that seats on top of the injectors its the one that as the leak off pipes conneted to it with a small horse shoe clip to hold it in place manged to glue it back hope this works is there any high preasure in that part as landrover want 21 pound for that connector. also where dose thee oil go that used to be caught in the old mesh type filter many thanks

Seem to remember the old BL/Austin A series engine oil filler cap had stuff like a metal pan scourer (not the wire wool) which did basically the same thing. As the fumes passed through the cap the oil collected on the metal coils and dripped back onto the rockers.

Standard check when buying these was to look at the filler for white gunk as a sign of head gasket problems. Because it was such an open structure they didn't need changing, sometimes the simple ideas are the best.

just fitted my new oil separator (new type) as my 02 td 4 was starting to show signs of high crank pressure -oil oozing from dipstick.I had taken the bog roll filter out eight months ago and really cleaned it well and was expecting it to last a couple of years but it seems once they start to clog thats it ! anyway thanks for the info on part numbers ect, got mine from a bmw stealer £18 + vat, will be checking it in a few months tho just to be sure.

Buying an 2003 Freelander TD4 on Thrusday, its done 50,000, the dealer says he's servicing before we pick it up it but unsure what he's going to do i guess the basic oil and filter, is this crankcase filter something i should consider as totally new to the whole landrover thing!
Any help or advice would be appreciated
Danny

If the dealer is doing the servicing then ask them to do the crankcase filter as well for piece of mind. The filters themselves are not expensive and only add 20 minutes at most to the service time overall.

IMO a good garage would do this and add it to the annual service schedule.

Hello Danny, after seeing the state that the filter gets into I would definately change to the upgrade, last thing you want is a bugg*r'd turbo. with regards to the dealer "servicing it" thats fine but try to make sure they change the fuel filter as in my experience some times they only change what you can see! I change fuel and oil filters every 10000 miles and use a good quality oil to replace old, good luck, hope yours is as good to you as mine has been to me.:D

Will this filter work on models after 2002 without any adjustments?

yes very straightforward, just lift out old filter and the new part should just slip straight in.
