Right the tailgate window mech is goosed!

The cable drum is beyond repair and the cables keep jumping off.

I'm Ok with the window just clear of the roof so I can open the door. But how do I fool the wipers and heated window into thinking its closed.

Also is the wiper part of the MOT?

Hello Boxer,

Have a look on the RAVE manual section 4.17, the control for the position is by a Hall effect sensor within the motor itself, this inform the CCU as to when you can or cannot open the door.

In my opinion, the time you would take to try and fox the system, would be better spent on repairing the mec for the window,

I did remove mine at one time, cleaned and greased all runners, the only problem I had was that two of the bolts at the bottom of the mec adjust the angle of the glass (you need adjust so that the window fits into the top of the car)

Sorry I cannot help you any further in the fox the system bit

Cheers Dutch RR

The trouble is if the CCU thinks the window is up to allow the screen and wiper to work then it won't think it's down to allow the door to unlatch. Don't think the rear wiper is MOTable.

ThanksDutch

Unfortunately the drum in the winde is beyond use so it will cost me about £175 to fix.

Thanks I never thought of that. I only need it to work till the MOT is passed but i think , as thats next week, I goosed if the wiper is part of the test.

What if I remove the wiper?

Hello Again Boxer,

If your window is removed or disabled down and wiper removed, could you get through a UK MOT?

I remember a friend who borded up a cracked head light, and stated he only drove through the day.

ha ha, that wunt work, but the rear windows of my freelander commercial, and all my vans before have been completely blacked out, and always passed mot without comment. not sure what situation is for cars, but understood you had to be able to see behind you by 2 methods. in my case, os and ns wing mirrors, rear view mirror on windscreen rendered useless by not being able to see out of rear window at all

me thinks this might be one of those bite the bullet and pay to fix it things, good luck whatever you decide

Thanks Guys

I'm not tight but it really ****es me off when they will only sell the complete setup when it is easily repaired with parts, so much for a green approach to motoring.
