can someone tell me what is defined as time for replacement, my rears on full height I can see the outer thin film of rubber has gone and i can see ribbed reinforcing:- no air leaks though
thanks

Time for replacement is now! It wont be long before they start to leak if they are that badly worn. You wouldn't drive with a tyre down to the canvass! same thing.

thanks, reason i asked was the exterior rubber is all of 1 mm thick and on the worse wear points doesn't seem very durable:- looks like time for some shopping, ebay seems reasonable unless there is somewhere cheaper than £130 set

Ebay is the place, try Island 4x4 I've never had any problems yet.

If the rears are worn why not replace the fronts as well, surely they've all done the same mileage???

had a look round £250 for set of Dunlop originals
More fore Arnott industries gen 2
even more for Arnott industries gen 3.

basically I've not been driving it until I've got some new suspension bags-hovering between cheap Dunlops or Arnott gen 2 unless there is a compelling reason to by gen 3.

Arrnot give a lifetime warranty

your opinions please

Have you seen my video on How to Tell your Air Springs are worn?
How many miles are on the air-aprings?
How many years are on the air-Springs?
Do you have any other symtpoms, like lowering height overnight?

YouTube - Range Rover EAS - Do I Need New Air Springs?

I would go for the Arnott GENIII bags. If you plan to keep your vehicle for another 5 years, then certainly go for the Arnott bags. You can recalibrate the heights with the EASunlock software and get more suspension travel on the GENIII bags.

cheapest I've found for gen 3 is £475 plus shipping
unless anyone knows of a better deal for 4
thanks

in the end I bought arnott gen 2 full set for 205 and some new clips as the old ones were crappy

with the weak pound i think many of us will go for the slight upgrade of the gen 2's, we would all love to have the gen3's but like i have said before they are just too darn expensive! £500 quid for air springs, i reckon you could get a aftermarket airspring system for that- look on youtube for the airspring conversion on some of the big cars, impressive and much quicker on the height adjustment.

My take on it is gen 3 unless you have money to burn or think a 2 inch lift is required- way too expensive.

as a cheap 4 wheel drive armchair:behindsofa: and a little light off roading gen 2 will be great.

Will genII's improve the comfort? i don't want it to corner better but i sometimes think the std suspension isn't very compliant on the road compared with other luxury cars it tends to plough through road bumps not waft over them or is this just the price you pay for having so much unsprung weight i.e axles? mine is 2002 4.6 btw

Okay quick suspension 101 the airbag replaces the spring in effect the harder the spring the less bounce and rebound travel. Now when the spring absorbs the bump in the road, the damper stops it from continuing bouncing.
Depending on compression and rebound valving in damper, will affect how composed over bumps it is.

Gen 2 air springs have kept the range rover more stable and level in corners-less pitch and roll.

So for my money I'd suggest that gen 2 and a decent uprated set of gas dampers will transform the handling.:D
