Nice one!
I speak half decent french... I did drive past that 4x4 place on the way to the recovery centre! I will take a trip there tomorrow. . I'd put a used item in the truck if it'll get me back home..This guy is a 4x4 breaker just north of Orléans

Don't know if he will have what you need obviously.
But the French mechanics are obliged to fit 2nd hand parts if you ask for them, as long as they aren't safety critical.
Whether what has gone wrong is safety critical is arguable probably, but the place I used fitted a second hand rear axle complete and two doors.
Sadly nowhere near where you are, or I'd give you his address and they'd look after you.
How fluent are you in Froggylingo?
Normally you remove both together, VERY carefully, but I am not "up" in auto-boxes, only ever done manuals.Thank you... I have found a recon box on french eBay. Is the TC inside an auto gearbox? I can ask if the TC is also new...
Many Thanks
Thank you sir!! Very kind.....If I can help in anyway, pm me.
I have in the past helped a Dutch guy in a 3 way convo with a French garage, but he had no French at all.
If your French is half decent then with Google translate for technical bits you should be OK.
all the very best for tomoz!
(Crossed fingers imoji!)
Don't mention it, for so long we travelled from Le Havre or Ouistreham/Caen to our place in the Tarn towing a huge box trailer with first our Disco 1 300tdi, and then our Disco 2 TD5 auto. We did this return journey 4 times a year.Thank you sir!! Very kind.....
Will the recovery bring all car boat and you home, or do they just recover to nearest garage (or nearest garage that give them a bung), check your contract if they will bring you home get it home and sort it out without the pressure, they would sooner it fixed there as will not cost them but if you have it in the contract then they will do itHi all...
Got an update.. The boat and truck were rescued from the motorway(AA Euro cover). Boat in storage and the truck was sent to a garage someplace and myself to a hotel.
I just a had a call from AA Euro Breakdown to say the gearbox and clutch has broken.
I asked her the name of the garage, I checked them out. They are an auto electricians.
Tomorrow I get a quote for a new gearbox..
I am in a real pickle here..
Thanks for all the replies...
Hi.. I don't have parts and labour included... They will only ship me and the truck back... No use to me really as need to get truck fixed in France... As soon as i know what is actually needed i can source the part.. Just gonna have a ****ty week here until its done. I have found (if needed) a recon box 2 and half hours away from here... I could get a hire car and collect it to speed things up ..Will the recovery bring all car boat and you home, or do they just recover to nearest garage (or nearest garage that give them a bung), check your contract if they will bring you home get it home and sort it out without the pressure, they would sooner it fixed there as will not cost them but if you have it in the contract then they will do it
The "he" I think you are on about was some wimmins from the recovery people.Mentioning gearbox and clutch.. on an auto.. maybe he's never driven an auto before and doesn't know about how a TC works
But I suppose it is possible a driver wouldn't know how a TC works, (I don't fully understand them and have never taken one out never mind apart! Many peeps don't even know how a clutch works!I just a had a call from AA Euro Breakdown to say the gearbox and clutch has broken.

They have taken it to a random garage, what do they know of land rovers or auto boxes? I am not saying they might not know what they are doing but would you stop at the nearest garage in the UK and ask them to change a auto box or would you take it to someone that knew what they where doing? could you find someone else to ship the ship (sorry could not resist) might be harder now because of all the extra paperwork, or try and find a garage there that does this sort of thing, garage bills here can soon get out of hand, good luck with it all,Hi.. I hate working on gearboxes, always get so far and the panic starts, this is never going to all go back in the same place it came from, but there seems to be a gearbox god somewhere watching over me. Auto I would not know where to startThe "he" I think you are on about was some wimmins from the recovery people.

I find there is always something to learn when it comes to gearboxes!
Engines and diffs are sooooooo much easier!
