Good evening all. Hope your well.

Have a couple of hours on the engine tonight and so far all look good.

Just one thing i found and thats there was no gasket on the rear crank oil seal. is this how the factory did it or had some one done a bodge job?

Hello all.

Had a hour or two most evenings this week.

Engine is now totally striped even cam bearing as the front was grooved bad.

The crank is lovely and measured up nice.

so this weekend if it is raining i will keep on cleaning and measuring.

Good evening guys.

So this weeks mission is to balance the con rods.

To night i have made a balancing jig and it seem really constant.

Great work so far! I've had a a full bottom end balanced on a bmw turbo I built years back but suppose I have never really though how you would balance the rods, could you explain a little what your doing there please? Thanks

Hi @robhtid

More photos will follow this week but basically i will be weighting the big ends and little ends of each rod using this setup i have made. Then once i have a list of the end weights i will pick out the lightest rod and note the end weights then match the other 3 rods by removing small amounts of material from the ends or the rods until they all wight the same.

Its a time consuming and tedious job but i like things like this. Done a few American V8's in the past and its well worth the effort i think.

Aup lads.

So heres a little update on the build.

The front axle is now totally stripped down and i have given the casing a good clean. Hopefully i will soon start to give it a good going over with the wire wheel and some paint.

I have also started to blast all of the aluminium parts i have.

This weekend i will be working on the stripping the landy down as i still have the rear tub and axle to remove.

Stripped the Transfer box down today and took the brake and clutch peddle assembly off the bulk head.

I was hoping to have a good day outside but it was raining for most to the day.

tomorrow i will have a good day stripping more of the bulkhead down.

All of the aluminium engine parts have blasted well. Still need to do the bell housing and the rear of the gearbox.
