Right here is the problem..

At approx 60mph and you hit a pot-hole the steering wheel decides to wobble from Left to Right uncontrolable, it almost took me through the armco-barrier on the M5 yesterday when I hit a dip at 60mph and the old girl fully loaded tried to swerve all over the carriageway, scared the living sh*t out of my misses and kids.

Reciently I have had two new trailing arm track-rod ends fitted by myself, which I went to a local garage and they said my tracking was fine and with in a 1mm of the proper settings, also I have reciently fitted a new steering damper which I got off ebay for £11.00 + Postage

LAND ROVER LANDROVER STEERING DAMPER DISCOVERY RANGE ! on eBay, also, Land Rover, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 08-Apr-08 12:08:55 BST)

Is there something I am missing here or do you think it could be the tracking or the new damper.

Also at above 75mph the whole car shakes slightly like you are driving on cobbles.

Help would be appreciated.

I saw this on a mates car... he could accelerate through the problem but it came back as he de-cellerated. A very violent shuddering which would rip the wheel out of his hands.

he looked at everything, a new steering damper sorted it out
 
Your problem is your trunion bearings req adjustment.The two bearings that hold the front stub axle on have a bearing top and bottom.The top one has shims in wich you have to remove to tighten as they wear.Easy and non exspensive job by a local land rover specialist.

That sounds the same as mine, but as I have said I just put a new one on and it seams the same.

Mainly when you either unload one wheel in a slight dip or you hit an uneven patch on the road.

OK looks as if I may be having another trip down to Roeans in Telford for them to have a good look over the old girl, grrr

Do you mean what is often referred to here as the 'swivels'?
 
Hello Mate

It would be worth while checking your panhard rod bushes while you are looking for the cause a mate had the same issue where his disco shot across the road towards oncoming traffic ( he reckons the car coming towards him **** it almost as much as he did) this gradually got worse. if you lie under the front of your truck and get someone to turn the wheel it is easy to spot if the bushes are on the way out

Have you had youre swivel preloads checked? Mine was a t**t till I got them sorted, now no shaking at all..... only a bouncy ride! Try that!
 
had the same prob after the easter shindig, new inner and outer bearings, adjustment on the kingpins and and track rod end which was only 4 months old yet still seemed to want to pop out has sorted the all.
mine was mainly ruts what wagons had made in the road or would try and weave under breaking. ooo have bad vibes 60 and above though but i am 100 percent it cause i fitted my nobblies and dint have em balanced!
 
also for vibration try ujs aswell, might not be the prob but always for safety reasons gives em a check, had one go @ 70 and a nice sidways action follwed by a 360 degree brought me to a halt safely!!! woohooo!
 
you can get a jemmy in the joints and you can see the play in the bushes, I did the pan hard rod, radius arms and steering damper, still got the wobble, going to do the shocks as they are rusting badly, there is a bit of play in the uj in the steering column as it comes out of the firewall, so will check that out as well.
 
I have had my wibbly/wobbly lande diagnosed by a hardened Landee owner.
Panhard bushes and radius arm bushes.

Got em all from e-bay DLS UK LTD LANDROVER SPESH
Cheep as chips and fast and efficient.
Used them many times.

Cheaper than Paddocks or Craddocks:)
