Well I put about 3-4 full turns on my steering box it was that bad. It was like the American films where you can move the wheel from left to right without the wheels moving at all

Check bushes in panard rod,get someone to waggle steering wheel and you watch each end of the rod, it there is any movement renew bushes.
well gave it a go today, little bit better, got the securing bolt undone fine but the actual allen key was a bitch! and its in almost flush now so i think its time for a new box when pennies allow!
planing bit of a rebuild, of types, next year so im not looking too far into it for now. id like to change over to all polybushes and replace the track rod n ends, etc. etc.

Apparently they show signs of not lasting within a few months but will need replacing in less than 20K miles.

Been on polybushes for years,cant remember what make but still going strong. A mate has his on ironman still good too.
apparently there's also some reliable hippos out there as well
