meant to say it does warn not to unplug or remove any ecu system that's under the bonnet with the battery connected as it can cause damage to them

don't know how true it is, but read it and thought I would at least pass it on

only thing I can think of through this is the force of the water has maybe dislodged something ,it would have dried out ages ago

so something must be either touching , or dislodged somehow

everything is crossed for u

shame like I said u wernt down this way as a fresh set of eyes , etc

What damage could it cause? Its got to be worth a try.

Could still be the wiring to the lambda sensor if its rubbed through somewhere.

Yes there might be a fault anywhere in the wiring from the fuse to the multiple earths on the starter and O2 sensor. That's why I suggested you unplug the wire from fuse 1 so that it isolates it.

If its unplugged from the sensor yes, the wiring may have rubbed through some where between the sensor plug and the fuse causing the live feed to go to earth.

I have always found things like this a challenge, yep I know I'm sad and need to get out more

Sorry for late reply lads had a bad week. Baby been unwell so havnt had chance to try sorting the car. Im going to try removing all the fuses tomorrow after work. Again sorry for the late reply.

So i took out all the fuses that weren't needed to start it but the fuse still blew. There were 5 fuses left in that were needed to start it. They were F5 (SM), F6 (Alternator), F8 (hazards i think), F15 (looked like a door with a key) and F36 (SRS this had a yellow case on so i didnt want to remove it. Still have no idea whats causing this. On the plus side the baby is feeling alot better now.

Glad the baby is on the mend mate. Cars are just cars.

Have another look at the earths by the headlight. Take the battery off and really go to town cleaning/checking etc. Take the air box off and see if anythings amiss as you can see more.

Totally flummoxed this side otherwise.

At the risk of sounding repetitive, did you try this...

If it still blows the problem must be in the fuse box (presumably!) - not further down the line in the wires/Relay.

Having looked at some electrics on my son's Rover Tomcat - the actual wire may be in a block with other wires. You may have to find which block it is and connect the other ones some way but not the F1 wire.

Don't let it beat you!

I'm no mechanic. When my IRD went I cursed and spat fire for about a month deliberating how much money to pile into the car and how to fix the f***g thing. But I persevered, got some bits shipped over and lost a lot of skin off my knuckles - but I got it back on the road. I didn't even like the car too much before that - but I love it now. That was 2 years ago and its been Toyotaesque in its reliability since

Its repayed me heaps for the effort I put into it.

For a fuse to blow there's got to be power going through it. You've swapped the fuse box itself - so its unlikely both had faults. Therefore it must be in what that fuse supplies. It only goes to 2 places - the starter relay and the O2 relay.

If you can pull the wire from F1, start the car and it doesn't blow - you've confirmed its there. I'd be amazed if its not.

As the O2 sensors can cause problems - I'd then put the wire back onto F1 and pull the wire to the O2 sensor from the relay at the relay and try again. Once again if the fuse doesn't go - you've confirmed it is the O2 sensor.

The difficulty will be pulling single wires as these days they all plug in together in a block - so you'll have to find some way of isolating just 1 wire in the block.

Its your decision mate - and I can understand exactly what your thinking - good luck which ever way you turn

Wish you lived closer i'd love to have a look at this if only to satisfy my own curiosity of what's causing it, however my curiosity isn't strong enough to drag me all the way to liverpool i'm afraid :5bsmash:

If it can't be fixed with a hammer it must be an electricary fault
