Following this one closely as well :)

Starting mine this weekend, only just managed to get it as far as inside the workshop so far. Both footwells need doing and both bulkhead outriggers are knackered, but I've got a 200TDi sat on the floor to go in, so gonna rip the 2.25d out and see what else needs doing

hey key do you mean a 200tdi bulkhead or engine?? does a defender bulkhead fit the series 3???? if so how much arsing about do you have to do to make it fit????

Engine :D

I did look into fitting a defender bulkhead, but its alot of arsing about cutting bits out everywhere, so gave up on that plan in the end. Have you got a thread with pics of yours in it?

You'd LOVE to flog me yer old lump, wouldn't you ?
**waves his Jedi Hand across the internetweb**:darth_vader: :D

series 3 military bulkhead.... seen one quiet close to me, will it fit on mine straight swap... whats the difference between the militarty and civilian????

i ain't got a clue, boss, but i've got it in my head that it needs a bit of fettling to make it fit. I'm normally wrong about these things though .... :D

I started on the dumbirons last night, and at 23:20 had the n/s one 90% welded onto some virgin metal plates due to the tin-worm spreading further than i'd originally thought.

Bit worried/****ed orf, as the O/S has been plated right back to the bumpstop, so i'm going to have to pretty much make a new front leg, AND fit the Dumbiron aswell - I wouldn't normally mind, but it's ****ing cold, Smidge looks more like a pile of scrap ATM, and the list just keeps getting longer.

Still - Onwards and Upwards, what, what :D

Here's some piccies....

it looks like its going good except for all the extra **** your finding, at least you know what your doing and going at it like formula 1 driver..... keep it going and get some ficking batteries for that camera and keep some spare in the garage....... (o what i would do for a garage, out of the wind and rain with a heater to warm it up and fixed lights and not having to hide and lock stuff away...... o them would be the days...... ps bought a welder so ready for you to come up and meet me and neil and do some repairs lol

not sure anyone would let me loose on their body parts - even the other half dont allow it too often lol........ but signature is good idea - will take her to tattoo shop and get it on her arse llllll

I use my faithful tin sips, and a grinder with a 1mm cutting disc, murry, my lump hammer, peening hammer, a toffee hammer and a pair of modified pliers for folding bends.

Doing the full floors, it's not too bad - if you've ordered replacement panels, offer them up to the floor, and look at where they need to be welded/rivveted - it's makes what you need to do very clear. Mark it up, and chop with a cutting disc or nibbler, leaving a 10mm overlap for a decent seam for the weld puddle when you start to join it all up. Not a huge amount of panelwork on these is seam welded - most of it is Spot, so a good ****ting with a cold chisel and the spots will pop off - most of the good panels have the full flange, too ;)

So did you use a normal hand grinder ? You must have a steady hand.

Yup. And a lot of scars :D
I'm surprised my arms and hands haven't started to rust TBH - the amount of metal/grinder dust that's been driven into my skin over the years makes me almost as prone to tin worm as the stuff I work on :D

can just see it if yer ever need a ct scan with all those magnets in the machine youll be shot through the hole and across the room :eek:
