hi all we have a 1996 petrol Range Rover p38 ever since we took out the dash and replaced the blend motors we have had the srs light on and airbag fault on dash how can we get them both off have checked all connectors and changed both bulbs but still the same,is there anyone one in the Staffordshire area that maybe able to help us out with this problem, thanks

On pre 1999 I believe that you need diagnostics to reove faults. after this the car does a self check and if all ok it switches off the fault lamp.

There is not many garages around by us that do the diagnostics on the 1996 p38 so we are either looking if there is anyone on this site in our area that can help us out or whether to invest in a hawkeye total diagnostic unit ourselves

if you are thinking of keeping the car. buy a Nanocom .It will be the best money you can spend. all garages want the earth to scan any car nowadays, let alone a Range Rover. If you recon about £100 per time at a garage then in 4 reads you are even

+1 on the Nanocom. I have one but it's thor. Might be able to reset airbag ecu faults though.
Problem is, I'm not down that way for a while now.

Definetly keeping the car when we bought it in 2014 we only drove from bath to Bristol and had to be recovered back to Stafford then was off the road for 18 months until we managed to get it back on the road and that was only with the help of this forum and friends on other forums we made that gave us help and advice on what to do as this is our 1st RR so knew nothing about them you name it we replaced it or fixed it so a light is not going to beat us I hope

I have a nanocom if you are ever up near Northwich in Cheshire, alternatively there are a couple of indys in Congleton.

Check all the connectors - especially the ones under the seats. (they are the easiest to get to :)) see Rave for location.
A squirt of contact cleaner and put back together and that was what sorted my SRS light.
Good luck

No connectors under seats on a 1996 model.

 Oops!
Demonstrating the old adage - 'Better to keep your mouth shut and be suspected of being a fool than opening it and proving it'

(But he should still check the connectors...):)

I'm not sure about the 1996 but often if an SRS light is triggered you need diagnostick to turn it off as the fault is logged and needs to be cleared.

If you go to the rescue map in the forum list there maybe someone close by who can plug it into diagnostics to turn it off or read the fault

Mine is a 2001 DT. SRS light started intermittently staying on after initial check. Cleaning the connector(s) did it. After initial check it now goes off, didn't need to clear the fault (tho' it may well be logged still, I don't know). I understand that it is an MOT failure if it doesn't go off. And you can't just take the bulbs out!

Did you reconnect the battery first then the srs connector? This can trigger it. If your still stuck the I can pop down and clear it for you and see if there's anything else lurking. Live in wednesbury and work in solihull. Let me know, cheers
