Yaaaaaaaaaaaay
Thanks Ian!
Thanks Ian!
If they have seen this thread then what the hell, not too fussed!
Just hope it comes good but if not no big trouble!
Yeah I think the disco 2 front axle would fit fairly easily, if not the hornet 4x4 could easily get conversion hockey sticks made, basically pin fitting at chassis like disco 1 and correct bush fitting at axle for disco 2.
That of course is the difference between bowler tomcat and wildcat, the latter uses disco 2 which is much stronger setup.
Might even look into it myself
Disco 2 front axle would be a NICE mod, but I would have diff issues (can't upgrade my ARBs to 24 spline centres because parts discontinued) so it would get rather expensive....

Disco 2 axles are wider too so better handling hence why comp safari/ wildcats ect use them
I was reading about D2's having wider axles last night and wondered how hard it it would be to convert the cases to fit on a D1. Do the diffs line up and would that just make it a case of welding on the apropriate bracketry?? I know the rears have a watts linkage "wattever" one of those is (see what i did there
bingy said:Sam, tbh, i did these over 2 years ago.
At the time i thought it was a good idea. It may go belly up on me, but i can only have a go.
It might go down the road like an asda shopping trolley, it may work well.
But looking back through the photos, the Disco 2 front hockey sticks are a lot wider than the defender ones i have on.
The ones on the old defender are the 48mm thick ones. In order to try and replicate the brackets on the Disco2 axles, i used exactly the same size as the brackets on the old axles. I did masses of measuring and levelling, tacking and eye balling before i was happy with them.
The Disco 2 have a lot thicker arm than the ones i used and i had to cut all the old bracketry off to put the new ones on.
Original Brackets on Disco2 axle:

Hope this helps
So there you go. Next time I'm near a d2 I'll see if its bodgeable
P38 pinion housing is pop side to D1 and D2
Hornet 4x4 needs cash investment, anyone up for a cooperative?
I will give you 10pounds for 1% of your buisness
