i built up my strait cut mini box with the atb a couple of years ago it was grate fun and so rewarding when put it back on the car well worth it and saved me 100s and 100s there not too dissimilar from what i have seen tbh. i love doign things like this my self rather than buying. my plan is to take the everything apart and replace everything that is warn out

so that will include the diff and like u say its 60 delivered for the xpin on there website seems silly not to but wanted to no if others have used them

i have two gearbox's so might rebuild that too if it needs attention.
 
Transfer case bolted in tonight, needs linkages connecting up, switches, filling with oil, test run (in the shop, I have no diffs of course) to check it's functions and adjust diff lock switch

Then it's carry on with the next Save McSave for rear Ashcroft shafts and front CVs, will work on my flat whilst saving moneys for car.

Once those are in it needs just the rear diff to complete the transmission, then it'll be time to design/build the onboard air.

Then I may look at Gwyn Lewis props.

Aaaaand I would like to know more about his hydro assist that has been in the back of my mind for years.

Then I think it'll be time to go offroading :D

I have busted a couple steering boxes in past though

As you may have noticed though I do kinda like to do mods on the basis that mods are good sometimes :p

However, it is something I want to learn more about, spoke to them a few years back about it and never took it further...
 
Yeah I know that DURRRRR

But I was more after whether it is locked up firm when not in turning mode as then it will help to avoid death wobble, what sort of girth of bracket I'm looking at for chassis end and if it's death on wheels on road

Fair few lads on LR4x4 have it fitted but wanted to hear from horses mouth first!

Oh right, well from what I understand (guy I collected my axles from had been researching hard for his challenge truck)

Its only active when the steering box is as hydraulic fluid comes from the box as it turns, it isn't exerting extra leverage on the steering arm so you're not actually increasing the turn ratio when the wheel wiggles so no it wont be death on the road and as trucks use it it has to be a fairly safe set up

It should also act as a steering damper given that its a ram filled with hydraulic fluid, guy on here says it feels better on road with Simex as it reduces the vibrations and wobbles to the wheel

Soooooooo... :)

New transfer case is in and "working"

I say working, it has oil in it and it spins nicely when the engine is connected but i dont have any props/diffs etc so thats about as much testing as it will get :p

Next on the purchase agenda is Ashcroft rear shafts and front CVs, that completes the axle components shopping list apart from the rear diff which will be a large chunk of dough to save up, still got a good few weeks yet before im rich enough to order the shafts/CVs... :rolleyes:

So if i try to think on, i dont think there will be MUCH action on here for a little while as i need to get some moneys together! :D

Got a few more bits to sell so i'll see how things go.

no action on here....what am i going to read on nights...do you not have some bolts somewhere that you can just polish up lol.

savings the hard part i hate that bit but still good things come to those who wait, im in the process of getting ready for cage now, then i need to save up for rear winch (not that i plan on getting stuck much) and then lockers.
 
I have a small project on it's way in the post so that will help you out :D

It's cheap and fairly easy, need something to keep myself busy you see!

Cage sounds good mate, always difficult to get a disco cage just right IMO...

yeah its not going to be easy its an internal/external mix ( or will be)..rear mounts are all in and ready, had to move rear winch mount forward and tank further forward (custom one) but will get there soon..its meant i can put some storage under the floor similar to the freelander boot hatch thing saves shackles etc flying round in back.

ooo projects whats in hand or is it secret.
 
Yeah I always thought for me I'd have a full internal cage but then take some of it outside where necessary to protect the body, that way it doesn't get too messy OR become too much of a hindrance getting hung up on things.

Some disco cages are awful!

Sooooo my stuff arrived for my mini project :)

Decided to make an alternative rear section for my exhaust.

You know, when you need to set some car alarms off or simply rumble in the jungle, a muffler simply isn't acceptable.
