remove the pressure switch and replace it with a pressure guage. Start the engine and watch the guage. If it's as 8inaVee says you will see a distinct increase in pressure.

take it to which ever garage you use and ask them 20 minutes and it will be done

mmm thanks lenny.

Justlooked at the switch again, it does work, I shoted it this time to the engin earth and all was fine, it lights up.

I then poped the oil filler cap again to find it this time not just looking like a steam train sounding like on too.

Its all falling apart on me!

Head gasket blown on number 4 cyl into pushrod holes, dont keep driving it or it will end up running away on its own engine oil.
Sounds more & more likely - get a new head gasket

any more votes for head gasket?

(how do I know if the head is ok?) please.

Thanks for the very quick replies and help, I am working on it at my parents and did not want ot just drive it home. Looke like they mayhave a visitor on there drive for this week!

When you remove the head you will see if theres any damage to the gasket or tracking across the block or head. If there's nothing obvious soak the head in a bath of diesel so that its all cleaned up. Then give it a good visual check for cracks or scoring. While the heads off check the cylinder bores etc etc.

Although possible it's unlikely that the head has failed the 200tdi is a tough & reliable unit.
